Apple iPad: Three Million Served

Apple has announced that on June 21, the company sold its three millionth iPad, a sales milestone no doubt fueled by recently launched international sales of the device. Apple’s sales total is remarkable: the three millionth sale comes just 80 days after Apple launched the iPad, and just three weeks after the company announced it had sold two million iPads.

“People are loving iPad as it becomes a part of their daily lives,” said Apple CEO Steve Jobs, in a statement. “We’re working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more people around the world, including those in nine more countries next month.”

Apple plans to launch the iPad in Austria, Belgium, Hong Kong, Ireland, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, and Singapore in July. It is already available in the United States, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

The iPad’s strong sales continue to raise the bar for what any competing tablet products will have to match and exceed to be a credible force in the marketplace…and several companies are working on launching a variety of tablet devices in time for the end of the year buying season, including devices based on Android and Windows 7.

In a Q&A session with Mark Gurman, the analyst said Apple doesn't have plans to bring the miniature version of its iconic lineup back anytime soon.

That's not exactly surprising. Apple basically killed the iPhone Mini lineup in 2023 when it launched the iPhone 14 Plus, leaving the iPhone 13 Mini as the last of its kind. With a 5.4-inch display, the iPhone 13 Mini wouldn't exactly fit in today's market of larger screens, but for users that preferred smaller phones, it was a godsend.

The base iPhone 17 display could look as good as the iPhone 16 Pro
Mockup of redesigned iPhone 17 Pro.

If we combine all the rumors we've heard so far about the iPhone 17, it looks like the entire lineup will be equipped with top-quality displays -- rather than just the Pro models.

In contrast, if you buy an iPhone 16 right now, the type of display you get will depend on the model you choose. The Pro gets you a larger, Always-On display with ProMotion technology and an M14 OLED panel from Samsung, made with super high-quality materials.
