Huawei is looking to enter the virtual reality game. The company has announced the Honor VR Camera, a 360-degree clip-on camera that works with smartphones. The camera was created in partnership with Insta360, and it supports “3K photography,” as well as live-streaming capabilities.

We don’t yet know all the details about the new camera, however according to Huawei it will be launched internationally. It’s also not known if the camera will work with a range of different phones, or with just Huawei’s own phones. Last but not least, it’s currently unclear how much the device will cost — but it would be surprising to see it come in at any more than $350, which is the cost of the Samsung Gear 360. In any case, it’s likely we’ll hear more about the phone at Mobile World Congress.

The release is certainly an interesting one, but it highlights a push by companies to launch virtual reality and 360-degree photography products. Samsung has a 360-degree camera of its own — however the camera is not as portable as Huawei’s new offering. It’s possible that cameras like this could help push 360-degree video among consumers — just as more mobile VR solutions like Daydream did for virtual reality.

M obile recording is likely to be what pushes 360-degree video into consumer consciousness. For example, the Samsung Gear 360 camera comes in at $350, offers 4K video recording, and works with Samsung’s smartphones. The Gear 360 looks slightly larger than Huawei’s offering and doesn’t clip to a smartphone.

The fact that the Huawei Honor VR Camera supports live-streaming is also a nice touch — platforms like Facebook Live have become extremely popular, not just for companies and publishers, but also for the average person. Facebook has also been pushing 360-degree video content, so the Honor VR Camera could be a big deal for Facebook Live.

Apple iPhone 11 Pro vs. Huawei Mate 30 Pro camera shootout: Pro power struggle
iphone 11 pro vs mate 30 camera shootout and

When it comes to the camera, Apple has seriously stepped up its game with the iPhone 11 Pro. But Huawei has also refined and improved the camera system for the Mate 30 Pro. Both these phones were announced within a few days of each other, with big claims made about their respective cameras.

Over a weekend, equipped with both the iPhone 11 Pro and the Huawei Mate 30 Pro, I took a series of photos with both phones to see how they both perform, and which takes the best. Here’s what I found.
Which one can you buy?
The Apple iPhone 11 Pro is available to buy right now, and the camera configuration is the same as the iPhone 11 Pro Max, so expect the same results regardless of which screen size you choose (even the iPhone 11's results will be the same, except for those shot with the telephoto lens. The Huawei Mate 30 Pro will be released in October, but in limited markets, meaning you can't buy it in the U.S.
Camera specs
The Apple iPhone 11 Pro has three 12-megapixel camera lenses on the back: A wide-angle, an ultra-wide lens, and a telephoto lens (2x zoom). Both the wide and the telephoto lenses have optical image stabilization, and there is a new Night mode too, though it only on the main lens. Everything is driven by the A13 Bionic processor and image signal processor.

Huawei Mate 30 leaked photos show massive camera array with four lenses
Huawei Mate 20 Lite review

A set of photos apparently showing the Huawei Mate 30 have been leaked, giving us a better look at the unusual camera array on the back of the phone. Published on Slashleaks, it's referred to as the Mate 30 rather than the Mate 30 Pro, but it could be either. The design of the phone is similar to those leaked before. There are three photos, showing the next Huawei flagship phone from the side and the back. Sadly, there are no photos of the front.

Looking at the phone from the back, it’s clear to see how the Mate 30 evolves from the Mate 20 Pro, which had a square camera array containing three camera lenses. Here, on the leaked phone, there is an elongated version of this camera lens array, complete with rounded corners.
