Rocket League creator Psyonix and Gwent‘s CD Projekt Red revealed this week that both games are ready and willing to support cross-console multiplayer modes, and all that’s required to make that dream a reality is Sony’s approval.

Microsoft previously stated that it would welcome cross-console multiplayer support for Xbox One games, and while Sony stated that it would be “happy to have the conversation” about the topic, it has yet to issue its blessing to developers seeking final approval.

Psyonix vice president Jeremy Dunham recently told IGN that cross-console support for Rocket League has already been implemented, and the developer is simply waiting for a nod from Sony before it can officially launch the feature for all players.

“Right now, we’re literally at the point where all we need is the go-ahead on the Sony side and we can, in less than a business day, turn it on and have it up and working no problem,” Dunham said. “It’d literally take a few hours to propagate throughout the whole world, so really we’re just waiting on the permission to do so.”

Developer CD Projekt Red has similar hopes for its The Witcher-themed competitive card game Gwent. According to CEO Marcin Iwinski, the studio is “keeping our fingers crossed for Rocket League paving the way,” with regards to cross-console multiplayer.

“Our upcoming Gwent: The Witcher Card Game will launch in closed beta for PC and Xbox One later this year, and Microsoft already confirmed Gwent‘s cross-play feature not only between Xbox One and PC, but also other consoles if they allow it,” Iwinski told IGN. “We also do have a technical solution in place for PS4 and would love to add Sony’s platform to cross-play at the start of open beta. All we need is a green light from Sony.”

Iwinski added: “At the end of the day, this is for the players, isn’t it?”

Black Myth: Wukong’s impact is more important than any award
Sun Wukong holds his staff in Black Myth: Wukong.

More than any other game released in 2024, Black Myth: Wukong took the world by storm. The action-adventure title from Game Science, a Chinese developer, annihilated Steam records in August, peaking at over 2.4 million concurrent players. It comfortably sits in second place among its contemporaries, according to SteamDB. Most recently, Game Science reached another milestone by winning Best Action Game and the Player’s Voice voting at The Game Awards.

While Black Myth: Wukong is an adaptation of the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West, it has an entirely different narrative hook: a continuation of the tale itself, set centuries after the adventures of Tang Sangzang, Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, and Sha Wujing. In it, you play as the Destined One, tasked with finding the six relics left behind by the Monkey King, Sun Wukong, in an effort to revive him.
