If you were looking to switch to Verizon and do not like going into physical stores, the carrier announced quite a discount for potential customers.

Thanks to Big Red’s newest promotion, potential customers can get $100 off several high-end phones, including the iPhone 6S and HTC 10. There are a few caveats, the first being the discount only applies if you make a purchase through Verizon’s online store. Secondly, the offer is only valid for new device payments, so those looking to upgrade need not apply.

The good news is that the $100 discount applies to both the phone’s full price and its equipment installment plan. Here is the full list of phones available through the promotion:

  • Apple iPhone 6 — $450 or $18.74 per month
  • Apple iPhone 6S — $
  • Apple iPhone SE
  • Samsung Galaxy S7
  • Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 5
  • Samsung Galaxy S6
  • Samsung Galaxy S5
  • LG G5
  • HTC 10
  • Motorola Droid Turbo 2
  • BlackBerry Priv

It is not known when the promotion will end, but it might be seen as a way for Verizon to try and meet expectations for the third quarter. The carrier added 615,000 postpaid subscribers during the second quarter, a number that was quite less than the 714,000 analysts expected it to add.

Making things worse, revenues and net income were down compared to numbers during the second quarter of 2015, with net income in particular seeing a steep drop. Verizon remains bullish on its future, however, since it wants to merge Yahoo’s core Internet properties — it announced the $5 billion purchase in July — and AOL to create a strong media platform in the same vein as Comcast’s NBCUniversal.

Big Red has been down this road before with Go90, its failed mobile video service that barely took off, and time will tell if its ambitious plan will pay off down the road.

One of 2024’s most unique folding phones may be getting a successor
The Huawei Mate XT.

The world's first triple-screen foldable phone is expected to get a successor. The Huawei Mate XTs is anticipated to replace the Huawei Mate XT revealed in China last year, according to Fixed Focus Digital (via Android Authority).

Information about the new phone is currently limited. However, it is expected to feature the HiSilicon Kirin 9020 chipset, which is already used in Huawei’s Mate X6 and Mate 70 series. Beyond this, few changes are anticipated as the company transitions from the Mate XT to the Mate XTs. Typically, the company follows an “s” model naming convention when introducing new products with updated internal components, such as systems on chips (SoCs), while keeping other features the same.

You won’t believe how affordable HMD’s newest Android phone is
A render of the HMD Key smartphone.

How much did you pay for your last phone? If you own a flagship or even a mid-tier phone from Apple or Samsung, you spent quite a bit. Even if you opted for one of the more budget-friendly phones, we'd be willing to bet this newest release from HMD is still less expensive.

The new HMD Key is available for sale in the U.K., Australia, and New Zealand, and while there's no word on a U.S. release yet, we hope to see it launch there because this handset is only $75. Yes, you read that right: $75.

It’s 2025 and the OnePlus Pad 2 is still my favorite Android tablet

For decades, smartphones have progressively grown larger, and subsequently, so have tablets, and the lines between big phones and small tablets have grown progressively more blurry. Some companies make smaller phones or tablets, but these are exceptions to the rule.

A case in point is Samsung’s tablet portfolio. Samsung debuted the Galaxy Tab S10 series in October but dropped a replacement for the regular Galaxy Tab S9. The Galaxy Tab S10 Plus and Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra pick up where their predecessors left off, but if you’re a Galaxy Tab S9 user, you’ll either have to buy the FE series or switch to an alternative.
