There are many ways to lose a smartphone. But doing so while performing a bungee jump isn’t a way that immediately springs to mind.
However, watch the video below and you’ll learn that if you do ever find yourself leaping from a great height with a stretchy rubber material attached to your legs, it’s a really good idea to empty your pockets before doing so.
Máirtín Farragher learned this the hard way.
In his eagerness to experience the world’s highest bungee jump, located at Bloukrans Bridge near Nature’s Valley in South Africa, the Irishman completely forgot that his iPhone was in his pants pocket.

We even see the device slip gently from his pocket during the dive before falling out of shot and presumably plopping into the river several hundred meters below.
With his attention caught a few seconds later by loose coins also falling from his pocket, Farragher checks his pants to discover the horrible truth.
“Oh no, I dropped my phone!” he calls out while dangling upside down in the middle of nowhere. But by then it was too late.
Following the mishap, Farragher wrote on Facebook, “Yesterday I learned a valuable lesson – don’t do a bungee jump with your phone in your pocket. It’s at the bottom of a canyon now in South Africa.”
