Deus Ex: Mankind Divided‘s first story DLC, System Rift, launches in just a few weeks, and brings with it a familiar face from protagonist Adam Jensen’s past.
“In Deus Ex: Mankind Divided — System Rift, you will re-unite with Frank Pritchard, Adam’s friend and former colleague at Sarif Industries, and assist him in hunting down information on the mysterious Santeau Group,” Square Enix says in a press release.
Pritchard’s actor, Andreas Apergis, will also join Elias Toufexis (Adam Jensen) and composer Sascha Dikiciyan at PAX West for a special Deus Ex panel, where they will discuss, in part, the return of Pritchard to the game. It will feature the first footage of System Rift.
Sarif Industries plays a subdued but important role in Mankind Divided. Though the organization went bankrupt at the conclusion of the previous game, Human Revolution, founder David Sarif remains a contact for Jensen, discussing the history of his augmentations and the recent technical problems he has experienced. If this is your first game in the series, a 12-minute recap video included at the beginning will help get you up to speed, detailing Jensen’s involvement with the organization.
System Rift is one of two announced story DLC packs for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, with the other, A Criminal Past, scheduled to arrive in early 2017. Both are available as part of the $30 season pass, which also features additional ammunition and credits, grenades, and special weapon skins. It’s also available separately for $12.
Mankind Divided launched last week to critical acclaim, with particular attention given to the narrative and RPG elements. In our review, we called it “an intricate, entertaining, and genre-bending action-stealth RPG” but also a “muddled political statement.”
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is now available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. System Rift will release on September 23.
