This next-generation device communicates information from your smartphone completely through the wearer’s sense of touch. In essence, Moment draws shapes and patterns onto your wrist with precise vibrations. Initial features promise GPS navigation, caller identification, notifications, alerts, and time augmentation. And none of it requires you to look or hear anything — just to feel.

So how does it work? The Moment promises easy set-up in just three steps. First, connect the wearable to your Android phone or tablet, iPhone, or iPad through Bluetooth Low Energy. Then, select your streams, which is to say, the apps you’d like to connect. Whether that’s ensuring that you’re always notified when you get an email or when the Patriots score a touchdown, you can adjust how you want to get alerts.

Then, train your mind. “Your brain adjusts to the new streams of data through a process known as sensory substitution,” the Moment team says. “Over time, the new information becomes intuition –delivering what you want to know the moment it happens.” That means that as you become accustomed to your wearable, you’ll refine your sense of touch, and find a whole new way to stay alert.

Moment depends upon four brushless linear resonant actuators with automated resonance tracking and closed-loop power optimization to create the telltale vibrations, and sensors include an accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer providing 9 degrees of freedom inertial measurement.
