Remastered versions of video games don’t typically take up an unreasonable amount of storage space on consoles, but it appears that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is a bit of an outlier. Players will need at least 130GB of storage on the PlayStation 4 for both the remastered Modern Warfare and the upcoming Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, which is required to play the remastered game.
The requirement was spotted on Call of Duty enthusiast site Charlie Intel, which learned that French retailer Micromania has been handing out empty Infinite Warfare boxes to those who pre-ordered the game so that they could play the Modern Warfare Remastered campaign a month early. The back of the box states that 130GB is the minimum hard drive space required for the two games. Not only are future patches likely to increase this minimum requirement, but if Infinite Warfare follows in the footsteps of the majority of AAA games, there will be a day one update, as well.
If you were planning to only install Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, you’re going to be out of luck. Infinite Warfare is required for Modern Warfare Remastered to run, though it is advertised as a separate download.
However, there is one way you can play the remastered game’s campaign without owning this year’s installment. If you’ve pre-ordered the Legacy, Legacy Pro, Digital Legacy, or Digital Deluxe versions of Infinite Warfare, you’ll receive digital access to Modern Warfare Remastered‘s single-player component. It will only be available until November 3, at which point you’ll need the game disc again.
It’s not entirely clear why the minimum storage for Infinite Warfare and Modern Warfare Remastered is so large, considering that last year’s game, Black Ops III, was less than 50GB at launch. Advanced Warfare‘s minimum storage was even less than that.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered both launch on November 4 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
