The LG V20 — the followup to last year’s LG V10 — is shaping up to be one of the most noteworthy phones of the year, which means you should be prepared when the time comes to hold it. The V20 may have passed military drop tests, but there are still a variety of reasons to apply a protective case. Many people can’t stand to see a naked product, one exposed to the world that dares misfortune to befall it. Some are well aware of their clumsiness and can’t put a case on it soon enough, while others invest in one just to change up the look of their phone. Whatever your motivation, we’ve picked out a few of our favorite LG V20 cases. Maybe something will catch your eye.
OtterBox Defender Series Case ($60)
For the best in protection for your shiny new toy, look no further than OtterBox’s Defender case. OtterBox makes Defender cases for many other smartphones out there, and they are seriously tough. First and foremost is the built-in screen protector that completely covers the 5.7-inch display, followed by the drop resistant cover that will only enhance the phone’s own drop proof capabilities. The case also has port covers to keep dirt, dust, and other debris out of the phone’s important parts, but still leaves them entirely accessible when needed. When the time comes to put the phone away, you can attach it to the included holster and clip it onto your waist for safe keeping and easy transportation.
Urban Armor Gear Plasma Series Case ($30+)
What Urban Armor Gear’s case lacks in the built-in screen protector department, it more than makes up for when it comes to guarding the rest of the phone. Like the phone itself, the Plasma case also meets military drop-test standards, so you don’t have to worry about your LG V20 if it takes a tumble. The sides come with button covers, as well as rubber grips to decrease the chances of an accidental drop, while the edges surrounding the screen are scratch resistant and will prevent skidding, in the event the phone is in a position to slide along a surface. The case itself is also incredibly light, so don’t worry about adding more mass to your phone.
Tech21 Evo Check Case ($40)
The most unique thing the Evo Check case has going for it is the material it’s made out of, which is known as FlexShock. Tech21’s proprietary blend results in a case that’s well equipped to deal with sudden and drastic impacts, which is especially important if you’re prone to dropping your phone. It’s lightweight and thin, and the case’s design doesn’t draw much attention, but it is smooth to the touch and features a diamond pattern on the back. All ports and buttons are accessible, and fully functional, while the case is on.
Incipio DualPro Case ($30)
The LG V20 can handle itself when it comes to drops from a reasonable height, but you can’t have too much protection, right? Incipio’s DualPro case has a hard outer shell that defends against scratches, and a flexible inner layer and bumper that keeps your phone from shaking around too much or being damaged by hard impacts. The cut-outs for phone features are accurate and there are good button covers for the volume controls. If you don’t want to solely rely on the phone’s abilities to deal with high falls, the DualPro delivers good protection against drops, thanks to that aforementioned hard outer shell and soft interior. It comes in a couple of different color combinations.
Poetic Revolution Series Case ($17)
Poetic says its Revolution case is rugged, so it should suit people constantly on the move and in areas that aren’t phone friendly. Like the OtterBox Defender, this case also comes with a built-in screen protector. Not only does it cover the display, it’s also water resistant. It has a boxy look when viewing the case from the sides, because of the face plate around the display instead of raised edges. Speaking of the sides, they’re covered in a unique grip texture to keep you from dropping your phone, but even if you do, there’s nothing to worry about. The reinforced back and corners are meant to withstand most falls and scratches, while the ports, buttons, and speakers are covered to keep out dirt and dust. That’s not to say you should go around dropping your phone wherever you please, but it’ll probably be okay if there’s an accidental fall.
Pleson Crystal Clear Case ($8)
To show off the original design of your LG V20, and let everyone know your phone of choice, you might want to look into Pleson’s thin, crystal clear bumper case. The best thing about this particular case (aside from how clear it is) is its flexibility. Being flexible means it won’t be difficult to apply or remove, though you should never need to since it won’t cover up anything important. It’s specifically designed for the V20, so be prepared for a snug fit, but once on, you’ll be able to enjoy the benefits of better grip, raised edges around the touchscreen, and a reduction in fingerprint smudges and residue. The case will also prevent bubbles from forming on the back, because who wants unsightly bubbles compromising their phone’s aesthetic?
Sparin Tough Armor Case ($8)
If you don’t want a wallet-style case, but still want a case that has a small amount of storage, there’s Sparin’s Tough Armor. It features a card slot that’s not-so-well hidden on the back. It can only hold a couple of cards or a small amount of money, as opposed to a wallet case that can easily hold both. As for what it does to guard your LG V20, there’s drop protection, shock absorption, additional grip, and raised edges around the camera and back button that will keep them away from any hard surface. The case comes in two parts: a flexible TPU bumper and a hard outer plate, with the plate doubling as the door to the hidden card compartment. You probably expect a case with storage to add a bit of bulk to the phone, but that’s not true this time around. Sparin’s Tough Armor is as thin and lightweight as they come, so you can store your credit cards without it feeling too weird to hold.
J&D Wallet Stand ($11)
This wallet stand case is made from synthetic PU leather and has a shock absorbent TPU snap-on case inside for protection in case of drops. It’s great for viewing media horizontally, but also has a built-in opening for a wrist strap or lanyard, which is becoming rare in cases nowadays. Inside, you will find three card slots for ID, cash, or credit cards. This LG V20 case comes in black, red, aqua, and brown. There are also two other designs called Donut and Cupcake with prints that are fun. Click the link below to check them out.
Tridea Power Guard ($10)
Judging strictly from the outside, this case looks like a normal TPU leather case, but when you look closer you’ll find a couple of surprises. The case itself is made of shock absorbing polyurethane, and it’s pretty slim to make it easy to carry. Open it up and you will find a hidden card slot. This can be used to store an ID or any other type of card. It comes in brown with a nice leather-style back or in carbon black with a carbon fiber type design.
Spigen Rugged Armor ($11)
Spigen brings one of their most popular cases — the Rugged Armor — to the LG V20. This is a beautiful case that mixes glossy and carbon fiber textures to create a really nice premium look. The fingerprint scanner opening on the back has a nice bevel, so it’s easy to use it to scan your fingerprint. As usual with Spigen, the Rugged Armor has military-grade drop protection, with Spigen’s Air Cushion technology in every corner.
Caseology Parallax Series ($12)
This beautiful case by Caseology is made in two sections. The first section is flexible TPU that is durable, and then there’s an outer polycarbonate frame that offers rigidity and impact protection. The raised bezel provides good protection for your display. A nice honeycomb pattern completes the look. This case comes in black, navy blue, burgundy, and coral pink.
Nillkin Flip Case ($22)
Here’s a nice simple flip case from Nillkin. It has a window so that you can see the second display on your LG V20 — that way you don’t have to flip the cover open every time you want to look at notifications. The inside of the flip cover is soft and gives some nice protection to the screen. It comes in black, pink, red, white, and gold.
Oeago Shockproof Case ($8)
This is another tough case that has a dual layer design. The inner layer is a soft silicone with some very heavy corners to give you some good corner drop protection. The outer layer is a hard shell with an interesting texture to give it extra grip and prevent you from accidentally dropping your device. The idea behind this design is that in case of a drop, the shock will spread around the case, and prevent damage to your LG V20. It comes in black, blue, purple, and mint.
Speck Presidio Grip ($45)
Speck’s Presidio Grip case is tested to withstand a drop from a height of up to 10 feet. According to Speck, it has been tested this way by a third party. The case is made of a material Speck calls Impactium. All the ridges that go around the case are meant to absorb shock and disperse it. They are also very good for grip. This case is a dual-layer design, but it doesn’t require any assembly by the user. It provides solid protection, yet it is quite slim. In terms of design, Speck has done a really good job here by giving you choices of all black, or a two-tone design of white and ash gray, twilight blue and marine blue, or whisper purple and lilac purple. It is pricey, but it’s also one of the best and most beautiful LG V20 cases.
Trident Aegis Case ($20)
This case features a good dual-layer design made of very interesting materials. It’s a rugged case, but keeps things relatively slim. The inner layer of this case is made of Thermoplastic Elastomer, and the outer layer of hard polycarbonate. The hard outer polycarbonate is quite smooth, so it will be easy to take it in and out of your pockets. If you’re environmentally conscious, this product is made with bio-enhanced plastics that are recyclable, degradable, and compostable. It has military standard protection for vibration and drops. The Mil-STD-810F rating means it can withstand drops onto concrete from a height of 4 feet.
