Scheduled to hit theaters on Memorial Day weekend next year, Life follows the six-person crew of the International Space Station as it encounters the first evidence of extraterrestrial life on Mars. Their efforts to study the life form take a dangerous turn, however, and crew members find themselves in peril as they contend with their discovery.

Life is directed by Safe House filmmaker Daniel Espinosa and features a script by Deadpool and Zombieland screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The cast includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Rebecca Ferguson, Ryan Reynolds, Hiroyuki Sanada, Ariyon Bakare, and Olga Dihovichnaya. The first trailer for the film offers a preview of what’s to come against the backdrop of a 1962 speech on space by former U.S. President John F. Kennedy.

The first footage from the film appears to tease a mix of alien-fueled thrills and outer-space drama aboard the space station, with hints of Gravity sprinkled in as well.

The film is produced by David Ellison and Dana Goldberg, as well as Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn, and is scheduled to hit theaters May 26, 2017.
