This Fotodiox adapter is reportedly killing Sony E mount cameras

Fotodiox Fusion Nikon to Sony Adapter Review/Broke My New Sony A7 II!
Fotodiox offers dozens of adapters that enable Sony mirrorless users to attach other lenses to their cameras. Most of these adapters work flawlessly, but one of its newest adapters has begun causing concern after a couple of photographers reported that the Fotodiox Fusion SmartAF Nikon G mount to Sony E mount adapter is breaking their cameras.

The first instance of an issue was noted by photographer Jason Lanier on November 24. In a blog post and accompanying video, Lanier said the $370 adapter started by draining the battery of his camera, then ultimately killed his Sony A6300 mirrorless camera. According to Lanier, his camera which he’s “taken all over the world […] will no longer power on at all.”

The second publicized instance, as noted by PetaPixel, comes from photographer Eric Rossi who published a video on December 7, 2016 that details his very own experience with the adapter, which killed his Sony a7 II in the exact same way.

We reached out to Fotodiox for comment and a spokesperson had the following to say: “the problem almost certainly lies with the Nikon AF-S VR Macro 105mm f/2.8 IF-ED lens, as it is the common link between the errors experienced in the wild and the testing we’ve been performing since those incidents occurred.”

Fotodiox says all sales of the Fusion have been halted until a solution for the compatibility issue is found, which is most likely to be in the form of a firmware update. Customers will be notified when a solution is found.

In the meantime, Fotodiox is advising all owners of Fusion adapters to avoid pairing them with the affected Nikon 105mm Macro lens (or any other Nikon Macro lens for that matter). As always, if customers aren’t satisfied with their adapter, Fotodiox suggests returning the adapter for a full refund, “no questions asked.”

The excellent intermediate Canon EOS R10 camera is $86 off at Walmart today
Canon EOS R10 camera mirrorless with STM lens attached and flash up

I recently grabbed a Canon EOS R50 bundle for a trip to the Dominican Republic. I did a lot of research before I made my decision, sifting through the best camera deals, and the two options I essentially narrowed down were the R50 and the EOS R10. The biggest difference between the two is that the R10 gives you more granular control over some of the photoshoot settings. R50, on the other hand, was designed assuming you'll mostly use the automatic shooting modes. That's a great option for novices, while the R10 is better for intermediate to more skilled photographers. Why am I telling you all of this? Because the excellent Canon EOS R10 camera is on sale at Walmart for Black Friday, discounted by $86 to $760 instead of $846. It is one of the better early Black Friday camera deals I've found so far. It comes with an 18-45mm lens. Needless to say, that's a great deal. Comparatively, the R10 with body only -- no lens -- is .
