Cameras haven’t officially begun rolling yet on X-Men: Dark Phoenix, the follow-up to 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse, but franchise star James McAvoy is already posting some footage of his own that hints at what’s to come.

The franchise actor posted a brief video on Instagram featuring a buzzing electric razor with his reflection in the handle, captioned “He approaches.” Just in case the point of the video was missed — that he’ll be returning to a bald existence when he reprises his role as the telepathic leader of the X-Men — McAvoy hashtagged the video “#charlesxavier #xmen #darkpheonix (sic).”

Production is expected to begin on Dark Phoenix this summer, with a November 2018 premiere scheduled for the film.

Longtime X-Men movie producer and writer Simon Kinberg will make his directorial debut on the film, which will bring back many of the franchise regulars. Along with McAvoy, the film’s cast is expected to include the return of Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, and Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler. A recent report indicated that two-time Academy Award nominee Jessica Chastain is currently in talks to play the villain of the film, Lilandra, a leader of the alien Shi’ar Empire.

Much like the Marvel Comics storyline that inspired the film’s title, the movie is expected to chronicle the destructive evolution of Jean Grey’s powers after she becomes the host of the powerful entity known as the Phoenix Force. When the X-Men find themselves at odds with the Shi’ar Empire regarding how to handle the power corrupting Jean from within, they end up at the center of a cosmic conflict.

Dark Phoenix is expected to be set 10 years after the events of X-Men: Apocalypse.

Currently scheduled to premiere in theaters November 2, 2018, X-Men: Dark Phoenix will be one of three X-Men films arriving in theaters that year. It will be preceded by director Josh Boone’s New Mutants on April 13 and the Deadpool sequel on June 1.

George Lucas abandoned a Star Wars twist that would have changed Obi-Wan’s story
Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor stand back to back in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace.

Few Star Wars characters have a story as well-known or important as Obi-Wan Kenobi. The character, first introduced as an older Jedi in 1977's Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope, is both a noteworthy mentor to Luke and Anakin Skywalker and a tragic figure due to the dissolution of his friendship with the latter. Thanks to Ewan McGregor and Alec Guinness' dual, decades-spanning performances as the character, Obi-Wan's story has been brought to life in almost its entirety over the years, too.

However, it turns out that Star Wars creator George Lucas originally had a very different idea for Obi-Wan Kenobi's story. In an interview with StarWars.com, Iain McCaig, who worked as a behind-the-scenes artist on Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace, revealed that Lucas originally intended to swap the names of Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan Kenobi and Liam Neeson's Qui-Gon Jinn in that film. "It’s interesting how things evolve,” McCaig commented. “For a time, the older Jedi was named Obi-Wan and the younger Jedi was named Qui-Gon."

What’s new on Peacock in November 2024
Daisy Edgar-Jones, Anthony Ramos, and Glen Powell stare offscreen at a tornado, probably, in a still from the movie Twisters.

If you're looking for an escape from wall-to-wall coverage of the U.S. presidential election, you aren't going to find that on Peacock. Between Saturday Night Live's election special and NBC news coverage, the election is going to be just as prevalent on the streamer as it is on network TV. The good news is that Peacock also offers a lot of entertainment value in November, including the streaming premiere of Universal's biggest live-action hit of summer 2024: Twisters.

Additionally, Peacock is the exclusive streaming home of Yellowstone season 5, part 2, a decision that Paramount probably regrets years after the fact. Peacock is also debuting an original action thriller, The Day of the Jackal, as a series starring Fantastic Beasts' Eddie Redmayne and No Time To Die's Lashana Lynch. As for movies, the Jurassic Park films, the first four Jason Bourne flicks, the Back to the Future trilogy, and a few of the Fast and Furious sequels are back on Peacock at least through the end of November.
