Ferrari models dominate first list of ‘Forza Motorsport 7’ cars

Vintage cars will show up in force on the 'Forza Motorsport 7' roster

Forza Motorsport 7 is set to have the largest list of available cars of the entire series, with more than 700 in total. While we don’t know the full list of vehicles you’ll get a chance to drive when the game comes out on October 3, developer Turn10 Studios has unveiled a list of 227 of them and there are some real standouts.

One thing that is immediately clear from the list is that Turn10 is looking to represent multiple eras of automotive history in the upcoming game. Even in this opening salvo of vehicles, there’s a 1939 Maserati 8CTF, which if you wanted, you could race against a 2017 edition of the Aston Martin DB11.

Indeed, Turn10 is looking to represent a lot of vintage cars with the upcoming title, with Microsoft taking a particular look at some of those vehicles in its “Vintage Week” breakdown. It highlights the mix of pre-war racers, post-war cruisers, and a variety of other vehicles which are designed to give players a dose of nostalgia and provide a new type of driving challenge considering their lack of modern features.

One of those cars is the Alfa Romeo 158. Originally released in 1950, it was one of the most successful race cars built in that era, only failing to come first in the Indi 500 during its first post-war season. In comparison, the 1967 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia was built for style, rather than speed and was ultimately produced for more than 20 years with only minor cosmetic changes.

Whether retro or modern though, Forza Motorsport 7 will have a wide range of manufacturers represented, from Ariels, to Bugattis, to Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and Porches. Car nerds who want to go a little deeper will appreciate the inclusion of multiple versions of some cars. Even in this limited collection, there are Porsche 911s from different eras and with different engine types, from the 1995 911 GT2, right through to a 2016 version of the 911 GT3 RS — something that wouldn’t have been possible not too long ago.

The most represented manufacturer in this first list of cars, however, isn’t Porsche, but Ferrari, which has a total of 46 entrants in this race to reveal (thanks Engadget). That includes classics like the 1948 Ferrari 166MM Barchetta, the 1987 Ferrari F40, and the 2013 Ferrari LaFerrari.

It’s not just the big names that Turn10 will sit gamers behind the wheel of, though. While there are no doubt many more names to come, even in this relatively small sample we see the likes of Ariel, Pagani, Noble, Saleen, and TVR.

With more than 700 cars set to be playable in the final game, it’s no wonder Forza Motorsport 7 has one of the largest install sizes in gaming history.

Forza Motorsport 7 is set for release on October 3 on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Check out the full list of announced cars below.

The Alienware m16 R2 gaming laptop with RTX 4070 is $500 off
The Alienware m16 R2 on a table in front of a window.

The gaming laptop deals of the holiday season aren't over yet, as there are still some excellent offers, such as Dell's discount for the Alienware m16 R2 with the Nvidia RTX 4070. From its original price of $2,600, the machine is down to $2,100. It's still pretty expensive, but it's actually a steal at that price, and the $500 in savings is huge. You're going to have to be quick in completing your purchase though, as there's no information on how much time is remaining before this bargain expires.

Why you should buy the Alienware m16 R2 gaming laptop
We highlighted the Alienware m16 R2's great gaming performance in our review of the gaming laptop, and this configuration that's on sale comes with the mighty Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card. Combined with the Intel Core Ultra 9 185H processor and 64GB of RAM, which doubles the recommended specification from our guide on how much RAM do you need, the Alienware m16 R2 won't have trouble running the best PC games at their highest settings. It's going to be ready for the upcoming PC games of the next few years as well -- it will be a while before you need to start thinking about making any upgrades.

I’m a Steam Deck apologist. Here’s why I’ve been using the ROG Ally instead
Elden Ring running on the Asus ROG Ally X.

Since its launch, I'm a bit of a Steam Deck apologist. It doesn't need the advocacy, as the Steam Deck is easily the best handheld gaming PC you can buy, but even in the face of competition from the ROG Ally, Lenovo Legion Go, and MSI Claw, I still use my Steam Deck for gaming on the go. A couple of apps have been slowly changing that story, however.

I like playing on my Steam Deck OLED due to the convenience. SteamOS isn't perfect, no, but it allows me to pick up and play my games quickly, which I value more than the higher performance available on Windows handhelds. A couple of key tweaks to the Windows experience can unlock that pick-up-and-play experience, and ever since configuring the ROG Ally X properly, I've been gravitating toward it more and more for my handheld gaming.

The Nintendo Switch 2 rumor mill was a comedy of errors in 2024
Nintendo Switch OLED and Joy-Con.

For a video game console that didn’t even come out in 2024, the Nintendo Switch’s successor left quite an impact.

Colloquially known as the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo’s follow-up to its hit console-handheld hybrid had rampant speculation surrounding it the entire year. Even once Nintendo eventually confirmed it would talk about Switch 2 on its own terms, the rumors did not slow down. While it now seems highly unlikely that Nintendo will discuss Switch 2 again before the year is over, 2024 will, in my mind, forever be tied with ludicrous Switch 2 speculation.
