‘Hitman: Game of the Year Edition’ comes with new campaign missions

The recent Hitman game has had a bit of a rough year. Though it continued to receive content updates and was praised by players, publisher Square Enix ultimately decided to break away from developer IO Interactive, leaving the fate of the game in jeopardy. But after IO purchased the rights to the series and began operating independently, Hitman has been able to thrive once again, and the new Game of the Year Edition is the perfect way for newcomers to start playing.

Hitman: Game of the Year Edition contains all of the content included in the game’s first season, as well as all-new Escalation contracts, weapons, outfits, challenges, and even graphical enhancements. If you’ve ever wanted to assassinate targets as a raven or a cowboy, now is your chance. You can also murder innocent victims as a clown, if you’re a creepy weirdo.

The online “Elusive Targets” that ran for the length of the first season will also be returning, but these will be limited to first-time players. If you already completed or failed one of the targets, you won’t be able to try it again.

The biggest addition to the new version of the game, however, is the “Patient Zero” campaign. Taking place on the Bangkok, Sapienza, Colorado, and Hokkaido maps, the new campaign tasks Agent 47 with stopping the spread of a virus. The maps include a “new time of day” as well as brand-new music.

While Hitman: Game of the Year Edition will cost $60 for newcomers, it will be available as a $20 upgrade to anyone who owns all episodes from the first season. A number of other free features will be added to all versions of the game, including a new user interface, new features for the Contracts mode, and native 4K resolution on Xbox One X. The game will also support Tobii Eye Tracking, allowing you to aim at your targets without even using your keyboard or controller.

Hitman: Game of the Year Edition will launch on November 7 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. It will only be available digitally, so the “Complete First Season” package is still the only choice for collectors.

Disney Tron: Catalyst is an isometric action game set in The Grid with an emphasis on narrative, identity disc combat, and light cycling. Disney Tron: Catalyst is the latest project from Bithell Games, wich previously released the excellent Tron: Identity in 2023. Catalyst is a continuation of that story, but an entirely different kind of game. While Identity was a visual novel detective story, Catalyst is a more traditional action-adventure game with combat that brings Hades to mind.

3 new Xbox Game Pass games to play this weekend (August 16-18)

Xbox has only received five new games so far this August, but three of them share a theme. The connective tissue between all of these additions is that they're new versions of older classics. With collections for some bombastic first-person shooters and cartoony platformers, and a remake of a crime action game, Xbox Game Pass' classics catalog has just been fleshed out with some excellent titles that come easily recommended. If you're looking for something to play on Microsoft's subscription service this weekend, consider checking out one of these three games.
Mafia: Defintive Edition

Mafia: Definitive Edition is a full-on remake of the 2002 mafioso crime action game Mafia. It's a Grand Theft Auto alternative set in a fictional 1930s city based on Chicago that follows the Italian mob in control of the city at the time. While Mafia never reached the heights of GTA, all the games in that series are creative and interesting in distinct ways. When it comes to the first Mafia specifically, the city of Lost Haven is an intricately detailed setting and provides a solid backdrop for a mob story that fans of movies like The Godfather or Goodfellas will enjoy. A fourth Mafia game is in development too, so now is a good time to get a better idea of how the series started. Mafia: Definitive Edition is available to play across PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Cloud Gaming via Game Pass Ultimate. It's also available on PS4.
