‘Gran Turismo Sport’ update will add offline play to campaign mode

Gran Turismo Sport - Opening Trailer | PS4
Gran Turismo Sport is a gorgeous racing simulator with fantastic sound design, but as of now, much of the game requires an internet connection. If you want to experience the campaign mode, you better hope your internet doesn’t go down — but an

upcoming update will give players more way to race offline.

On November 27, Gran Turismo Sport‘s patch 1.06 will introduce offline play for the campaign. While you’ll still need to be connected to the internet in order to save your progress, for some reason, the mode gives you a basic rundown of Gran Turismo Sport‘s driving controls, tracks, and “racing etiquettes,” as well as a selection of missions for you to compete in against your friends on leaderboards.

Also available offline via the update is the Livery Editor for customizing vehicles, as well as the Scapes photo mode. Previously, online two-player split-screen multiple, Arcade mode, and certain single-player races and time trials could be played without an internet connection. Though the addition of the offline option for Scapes is nice, sharing your custom screenshots with your friends will be a much more complicated affair without access to the internet on your PlayStation.

Back in September, Sony said the decision to make the game predominantly online was to encourage “fair racing,” and the game’s online championship was actually endorsed by the governing body Federation Internationale de l’Automobile in order to show the company’s commitment to racing integrity.

Another update will arrive in December and includes the new single-player “GT League” mode. This mode will allow players to race in cup competitions and endurance races across multiple skill levels, and it will continue to expand in 2018, with more races across its four leagues.

The December update will also include 12 free cars, including the Ferrari F40, Lamborghini Countach LP400, Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible, and Mazda RX-7 Spirit R Type A.

“From now to March 2018, a total of approximately 50 cars are already planned for [the game],” Sony added in the announcement. “And the updates will continue beyond March! You can of course look forward to the addition of new tracks as well, so stay tuned!”

Gran Turismo Sport is available exclusively for PlayStation 4.

Gran Turismo was the most dominant PlayStation franchise at CES 2023, appearing twice during Sony's January 4 press conference. We not only got a first look at the upcoming Gran Turismo movie, but learned that Gran Turismo 7 will get PlayStation VR2 support as well.
During the press conference, Sony confirmed that more than 30 games will be available for PlayStation VR2 at launch, including Horizon Call of the Mountain, No Man's Sky, and Resident Evil Village. In addition to a Beat Saber port, Sony also announced that Gran Turismo 7 will get a free update to add PlayStation VR2 support when the headset launches on February 22. We also saw some gameplay footage of Gran Turismo 7 for PlayStation VR2, which showed an impressive amount of detail as a player drove from a first-person perspective.

While video game and VR fans will love that announcement, that wasn't even the series' first appearance at the show. Series creator and producer Kazunori Yamauchi appeared earlier to introduce the series, highlight the GT Sophy racing AI, and tease the Gran Turismo movie. We then learned more about the film as Sony Picture's Sanford Panitch, PlayStation Productions' Asad Qizilbash, and movie Director Neill Blomkamp took the stage.
They discussed PlayStation's growing efforts in the entertainment industry and how the Gran Turismo movie will follow the story of a gamer who goes from playing Gran Turismo in his parent's basement to a professional racer. The film just finished shooting, and Blomkamp took time to explain how the Sony Venice 2 camera's detachable sensor allowed them to get unusual Imax resolution shots. We then got a first look at the film in a sneak peek video:

While the movie's appearance alone would have been a strong showing for this franchise, Gran Turismo reemerged during the PlayStation VR2 segment of the press conference. If you're a Gran Turismo fan, CES 2023 was certainly a treat for you! Gran Turismo 7 gets PlayStation VR2 support on February 22, while the Gran Turismo movie will hit movie theaters this August.

A person plays Crash Bandicoot using a PS5 DualSense controller.

The PlayStation 5's impressive visuals are about to get even better with the inclusion of Variable Refresh Rate (VRR). In a blog post about the topic, PlayStation announced that it would roll out VRR support for select PlayStation 5 games over the next few weeks. The VRR patches should automatically update supported games so long as users have a reliable internet connection and an HDMI 2.1 VRR-compatible TV or PC monitor.

What's so good about VRR? As Hankx World describes, it essentially makes it so that the console is the pace

Please Gran Turismo 7, let me spend my credits on Hondas
gran turismo 7 honda economy

My friends and I have a running joke that revolves around a specific brand of car: Honda. Don’t ask me why, but it’s an elaborate gag that’s been happening for years. So when I bought Gran Turismo 7, the ultimate driving simulator, I decided that I was going to take that bit to the next level by buying every single Honda model in the game. I refused to spend my credits on anything but Hondas.

Gran Turismo 7 had other plans, though. While there’s nothing actively stopping me from buying any car I want, it’s clear that the game does not want me to spend my entire budget on Hondas. Frankly, that’s responsible, but it wasn’t going to stop me from trying anyway.
