‘Monster Hunter: World’ and ‘Assassin’s Creed’ collide in surprise crossover

Monster Hunter: World, no stranger to crossover events, quietly added a new quest that brings Assassin’s Creed into the game.

The limited-time events that merged Monster Hunter: World with other franchises such as Devil May Cry, Street Fighter, and Final Fantasy are usually announced in advance. However, the sneaky addition of Assassin’s Creed just feels so appropriate.

The new quest, titled SDF: Silent, Deadly, Fierce, will allow players to take on the appearances of Bayek from Assassin’s Creed: Origins and Ezio Auditore, last playable in the franchise’s main series on Assassin’s Creed: Revelations. The quest is shorter than some previous Monster Hunter: World events, but it will not be easy.

Players will need to battle in a special arena with three of the biggest creatures in Monster Hunter: World, namely Odogaron, Deviljho, and Lunastra. Odogaron and Deviljho will spawn first, and once both have been defeated, Lunastra will arrive.

Every successful completion of the quest will net players a special item named Senu’s Feather, which is in reference to Bayek’s eagle. Players will want to finish the quest four times, then use two feathers to unlock Bayek’s armor, which is purely cosmetic. The other two feathers may be used to acquire Ezio Auditore’s Assassin’s Hood, which provides wearers with stealth by increasing their movement speed and allowing them to hide quicker, with the effect lasting until they deal damage to a target.

Players will only have until January 10 to gather four pieces of Senu’s Feather, so they might want to team up with others to be able to meet the deadline.

Monster Hunter: World‘s collaboration with Assassin’s Creed is the last one for the year. The next crossover, meanwhile, is already known to be bringing Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher 3 into the game in early 2019.

Monster Hunter: World is heading towards a major expansion named Iceborne, which will arrive in fall 2019. Iceborne will be released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC as a paid expansion, though no price has yet been announced.

Iceborne will feature new monsters to slay, new equipment to acquire, new quests to accomplish, and a new environment to explore. Capcom will likely reveal more information about Iceborne as its launch date draws nearer.

Capcom has treated us to another long look at Monster Hunter Wilds, including that all-important release date. The hunt is on beginning February 28, 2025, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

The latest trailer for the next entry in the massively popular Monster Hunter franchise showed off a more personal side to the story, opening with a child fleeing the wrath of the White Wraith and introducing us to many of the characters we can look forward to bonding with while slaying giant beasts. The adorable Palicos are back in full force, helping with cooking and on the battlefield as they have in prior games. In one instance a hunter was knocked out and saved by a Palico dropping a health potion on them.

I played Monster Hunter Wilds, and it’s already a thrill

I've always seen Monster Hunter as a cinematic game, though perhaps not in the way that many gamers picture when they hear the word. I'm not talking about big-budget cutscenes. Rather, spectacle is baked into its world. There's no greater thrill than watching on as the titanic beast I'm tracking suddenly gets attacked by another creature. It's like watching a kaiju battle unfold organically.

With Monster Hunter Wilds, though, Capcom is upping the ante. In a 90-minute demo, I played through the upcoming action RPG's first two missions. They were standard hunts against towering beasts, but something was different this time. A larger emphasis on thrilling cutscenes and cinematic set pieces took center stage between my normal hacking and slashing. That makes for a sequel that takes Monster Hunter to the next level, unlocking its blockbuster potential.
More cinematic
When my demo begins, I'm sailing on an ocean of sand with a crew of ragtag characters. After getting briefed on a monster in the area, the dreaded White Wraithe, I'm treated to an action-packed sequence. I see sandworms chasing a character in the distance, as if I'm watching a scene out of Dune. My hero leaps from the side of the ship and lands on a Seikret and gives chase. As I gain control of my character, I'm suddenly in a chase sequence. Worms leap around me, and I have to knock them off my trail with my slingshot. It's positively dazzling.

Ubisoft responds to Assassin’s Creed Shadows online backlash

Ubisoft is addressing backlash it's received from players about one of Assassin's Creed Shadows' main characters with a lengthy statement concerning how it handles history.

The studio released the statement on X (formerly Twitter) and on its website, saying that it's received criticism from a lot of areas, including Japanese players who leveled accusations at the developer for skewing history with Yasuke, a legendary African samurai who's one of the game's two main playable characters, the other being the Japanese shinobi Naoe. In response, Ubisoft stated that its Assassin's Creed games are primarily historical fiction made with the help of historians, other experts, and in-depth research.
