PORTLAND, Ore., May 28, 2019 — Digital Trends, the world’s largest independent tech publisher, is expanding their live channel again with a new Tuesday show called Jargon. The show will examine the technical and sometimes absurd insider terminology that makes different industries distinct.
The show will air from Digital Trends’ New York studio, hosted by Myq Kaplan. As a comedian with a graduate degree in linguistics, Kaplan brings the perfect lens through which to examine the language quirks of industry-specific terminology.
“We were really lucky to find Myq,” says Jake Rossman, Head of Live Content at Digital Trends. “He’s just the perfect blend of nerdy, witty, and relatable to bring this topic to life. The response to our live content over the past six months since launching Digital Trends Live has been incredible and we’re excited for the launch of new live programming.”
Each week, the show will deep dive into an particular industry, attempting to define key pieces of jargon that someone just entering the industry might encounter. Keeping step-in-tone with a Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, the show will approach technical language from the point of view of humorous ignorance, exploring the terms with the audience before bringing on a subject matter expert to make terms and concepts digestible.
Jargon launched yesterday with a guest appearance by Tendayi Kapfidze, Chief Economist at LendingTree, who joined Kaplan to explain the bizarre and sometimes confusing jargon of the home mortgage world. The second episode, airing June 4th, will be cover the world of blockchain, with industry expert and IBM’s VP of Blockchain Solutions Ramesh Gopinath.
The new program comes on the heels of Digital Trends expanding their existing morning show Digital Trends Live. Launched late last year, the popular news show is a component of a larger video growth plan which is currently delivering over 100 million views per month, including 5 million live video views with an average watch time of 10 minutes.
“We are investing heavily in live content and are expecting to be running 3-4 hours of live content a day from our studios in Portland, NYC and our soon to be built studio in LA,” says Pete Jacobs, Vice President of Integrated and Content Marketing at Digital Trends.
Digital Trends Live now runs longer every weekday morning, with the addition of Flipboard’s tech editor Ken Yeung to the Friday spot “Tech Briefs With Digital Trends + Flipboard.” Digital Trends Live gives host Greg Nibler a chance to catch viewers up on the morning’s most relevant tech headlines. Jargon will air live every Tuesday on LinkedIn and digitaltrends.com/live at 12pm PT / 3pm ET.
