Amazon Cyber Monday deal: Get this 70-inch Sony 4K TV for just $800 (65% off)

This story is part of Digital Trends' Cyber Monday coverage 2024

One of the reasons we love Cyber Monday so much is that it’s one of the best times to buy a new 4K HDR TV. And you will be hard-pressed to find a sweeter deal than this

70-inch Sony X830F Bravia 4K Ultra HD HDR TV, which is only $800

from Amazon for Cyber Monday 2019. We’ll do the math for you: That’s 65% off the regular price of $2,300.

That’s an astonishing price. The lowest we’ve ever seen the 70-inch Sony X830F Bravia is $1,000, so to see it come in at just $800 is remarkable. With its stunning picture quality, 120Hz refresh rate, and smart Android TV interface, this Sony TV is a great addition to any home theater setup. Of course, if you like the idea of a massive 70-inch TV but want an even bigger bang-for-the-buck, it’s hard to beat this deal on a 70-inch Samsung 4K TV for just $550.

Sony uses its 4K X-Reality PRO engine in this TV, which takes any non-4K content you might want to watch and upscales it to 4K resolution. It’s not quite the same as watching native-4K content, but it comes really close.

With four HDMI ports (including an HDMI-ARC port) and a set of component inputs (a rarity on 4K TVs these days), the Sony X830F Bravia gives you a wealth of connection options for streaming media players, soundbars, or cable boxes. There’s even an IR blaster output, which means you can control all of your other home theater devices using the Bravia’s included remote control if you choose.

Speaking of control, because this is an Android TV, Google Assistant is built-in. You can use the remote’s microphone to ask Google to find you shows and movies to watch, and when all else fails, it will find you the best YouTube videos. If you already have a Google smart speaker like the Google Home or Nest Mini, you can speak those commands without even touching the TV’s remote. Just say, “Hey, Google,” and you’re in business.

The Sony X830F Bravia is also a Netflix Recommended TV. That means it’s guaranteed to give you the fastest and easiest Netflix experience possible, with quick-launch capabilities and virtually no lag time when you want to resume a show you’ve previously paused.

The hidden costs of buying a 4K TV are way higher than you think
Toshiba 55-inch-class C350 series 4K smart Fire TV on a gray shelf and light gray background.

There’s never been a better time to buy a 4K TV. Prices have continued to drop even as screen sizes and smart TV features have continued to grow. But now that 4K TVs are priced within reach of almost anyone who wants one, are you actually going to be able to enjoy all of the extra detail and picture quality that 4K promises? The answer is, sadly, not as often as you expect, and not without some considerable extra investment over and above the cost of the TV.

Modern 4K TVs are packed with a lot of impressive technologies that can make picture quality look amazing, no matter what you’re watching. With upscaling driven by complex algorithms and often aided by AI, even watching an old DVD on a 4K TV will look way better than it did on an HDTV from 10 years ago. But to truly get the best possible results, you need access to native 4K content, preferably with some flavor of HDR, like Dolby Vision, HDR10, or HDR10+.
