PlayStation owners get Horizon Zero Dawn and nine other games free this spring

Sony is giving PlayStation owners 10 free games as part of its spring Play at Home program. The impressive list of freebies includes Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition, The Witness, and standout PSVR titles like Astro Bot Rescue Mission.

Sony’s Play at Home initiative began last April as a way to motivate fans to stay inside at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Sony revived the program last month by offering players a free download of Ratchet & Clank for a limited time. Sony is now upping the ante for March and April with even more games.

The big news is that Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition will be free to download starting on April 19. Players can grab it from then until May 18. The Complete Edition includes the full game, as well as the Frozen Wilds expansion.

On March 25, players can grab nine other freebies, including some top-tier indies. Chief among those are The Witness and Enter The Gungeon, which are two of 2016’s best indies. The list also includes rhythm game Rez Infinite and two underwater games: Subnautica and Abzu.

PSVR owners can add four games to their library, including Astro Bot Rescue Mission. The platformer is a predecessor to PlayStation 5 launch title Astro’s Playroom and one of the best exclusives available on the platform. Moss, Paper Beast, and Thumper will be available to download as well.

That list of games will be available to download until April 22. PlayStation owners can also grab a free Funimation trial up until that date as well.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins can change the long-running series forever, and players can check it out ahead of its 2025 release with a new demo out for the PlayStation 5 and the PlayStation 5 Pro on November 22.

The demo will showcase the Battle of Sishui Gate level, which was what was on display at the Tokyo Game Show earlier this year. However, head of developers Omega Force at Koei Tecmo Games wrote in a PlayStation Blog post that it'll feature new elements to a provide "a more substantial and challenging battle." Players will also be able to choose between various difficulty levels and won't have to deal with any time limits.

When I first got my PlayStation 5 Pro, I had a whirlwind first week with it. I spent days on end testing as many games as I could to determine how much of an upgrade it really was over my base PS5. I looked at five-minute chunks of games like Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart for hours, comparing every graphics mode on both systems. At the end of my PS5 vs. PS5 Pro testing, the result was clear: The PS5 Pro was indeed the more powerful console and, frankly, the most capable gaming device I had in my entire home.

So why, just two weeks later, am I still using my regular old PS5 so much?

Oh hey, GTA 5 is back on PlayStation Plus this month

November's PlayStation Plus lineup is packed with games this month, both in terms of quality and quantity. However, with Grand Theft Auto 6 on the horizon (hopefully sometime next year), arguably the biggest addition is Grand Theft Auto 5, which is back on the subscription service after leaving earlier this year.

There's not much to say about GTA 5 that hasn't already been said. It's one of the bestselling games of all time and still holds up more than 10 years after release. It's likely you already own it on some platform, but if you somehow don't or just want to play it on the PlayStation 5 or 4, you can play it for free with an Extra or Premium subscription.
