Battlefield comes to mobile devices in 2022, Battlefield 6 reveal coming ‘soon’

The Battlefield series is coming to coming mobile devices in 2022 with Battlefield Mobile. EA says that the game is currently in development alongside the series’ next console and PC installment, which will be revealed “soon.”

EA’s popular first-person shooter series hasn’t had a new installment since 2018’s Battlefield V. The publisher previously confirmed that a sequel was scheduled to launch later this year, but the mobile game is a standalone project that’s not tied to the mainline series.

Battlefield Mobile is being developed by Industrial Toys, the team behind the mobile Midnight Star series. EA acquired the studio in 2018. According to DICE General Manager Oskar Gabrielson describes the game as a standalone “skill-based experience” that’s being built from the ground up. The game is already in its testing phase with plans to launch next year.

DICE offered an update on the next proper Battlefield game as well, confirming that it’s still expected to launch this holiday season on “next-gen consoles” and PC. The studio says it has its biggest development team to date working on the project, with Criterion, DICE LA, and the studio’s Gothenburg team working on it. While there are no exact details on the game yet, Gabrielson describes the game as a “bold step” for the franchise.

“We’re in daily playtesting mode right now: Polishing, balancing, and making the best possible Battlefield game we can,” says Gabrielson. “I can tell you it is a bold step. It has everything we love about Battlefield — and takes all of it to the next level. Epic scale. All-out military warfare. Crazy, unexpected moments. Game-changing destruction. Massive battles, packed with more players and mayhem than ever before.”

DICE says that it will reveal the game “soon” and that players should look for updates over the next few months.

EA Motive, the studio behind 2023's excellent Dead Space remake, confirmed that the next Battlefield game is in development and that it will assist with its development. Unfortunately, work on that new game also means that seasonal updates for Battlefield 2042 will cease after the conclusion of Season 7: Turning Point.

These announcements were made across two separate blog posts. The one about EA Motive explains that "a group of developers from Motive are joining the talented teams at Criterion, DICE, and Ripple Effect to continue unlocking the full potential of Battlefield." Dead Space remake creative director Roman Compos-Oriola and executive producer Philippe Ducharme were named as the leaders of this team.

Call of Duty: Warzone is finally coming to mobile in March
Gameplay from Call of Duty: Warzone mobile

Activision's popular battle royale game Call of Duty: Warzone is making the jump to mobile in March. Specifically, it launches for iOS and Android devices on March 21.

This is a separate game from Tencent's Call of Duty: Mobile, which is currently available on the App Store and Google Play Store. Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile is made in-house by several Activision teams, including Beenox, Digital Legends, Solid State Studios, and Shanghai Studios. Further signifying that connection is that Warzone Mobile has shared progression with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and the PC and console versions of Warzone. Payers can level up the same weapons, access content from the BlackCell Battle Pass and store, and gain XP on the same account across all three games. Warzone Mobile will also have full controller support, although it will have a virtual controller overlay that's highly customizable.

Netflix games may be coming to TVs soon, as revealed by new iOS app
Selecting a game in Netflix Games.

It looks like Netflix might be expanding its gaming offerings to TVs soon, as a Netflix Game Controller is now on the iOS App Store. Netflix has yet to announce or comment on the purpose of the app, but a message shown when the app boots up confirms that it's coming.
Netflix has slowly made its way into the gaming industry over the past couple of years, acquiring studios and adding a dedicated game section to its mobile app that lets players download premium mobile games. The library includes some great games like Poinpy and Before Your Eyes, but has yet to break into the mainstream, likely due to its somewhat obscure availability. This new app, which was preemptively listed on Apple's storefront by Netflix and lines up with leaks from earlier this year, indicates that Netflix Games are coming to the TV.
The description for the app states that "this Game Controller app pairs with your TV and allows you to play games on Netflix using your phone or mobile device." After downloading and booting up the app, Digital Trends discovered two more messages asking players to "choose a game on your TV and follow the directions to connect" and that "Netflix Games on TV are in beta. Some devices may not be supported at this time."
All of this points to an impending beta rollout for games on Netflix's TV apps, which has not been announced yet. As such, we don't have any idea about which televisions or games the iOS app or Netflix Games on TV will support just yet. Regardless, this looks like a massive evolution for Netflix's gaming efforts, especially as it gears up to release a cloud gaming service.
Netflix declined to comment on the program when asked by Digital Trends, but it did refer us to previous statements it made about its intentions to break into cloud and TV game streaming.
