Runco Debuts New LightStyle Projectors

runcols-3-bigHigh-definition home theater projectors are more of a luxury than a necessity, but if opulence suits your needs then get excited for Runco’s new LightStyle series. Runco’s been leading the market for a while with its projection systems and video processors, and this week the company announced the release of its LightStyle series the LS-3, LS-5, and LS-7 compact HD projectors.

The LS-3 is the smallest of the three and comes with full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, 1000 ANSI and a 10000:1 contrast ratio. Runco’s LS-3 also has an extra long 4000 hour lamp life. This compact projector is priced at $4,995.

The LS-5 also offers 1080p resolution and features 1000 ANSI lumens, but it has a 15000:1 contrast ratio—the bigger the ratio, the more detail and darker black levels in the picture quality. The LS-5 is set to retail for $6995.

Lastly, the LS-7 comes with a lesser HD resolution (1280 x 720), but has an added brightness with 2000 ANSI lumens, so you don’t have to sit in complete darkness to enjoy your movie. The LS-7 has a 10000:1 contrast and is the most expensive of the three at $15495.

All three projectors share the same round design and black finish. The LS-3 and LS-5 will ship in November 2009, while the LS-7 will be available in December 2009. All Runco displays feature a two-year standard warranty.

Chinese projector maker Xgimi makes some pretty great portable and premium projectors and somehow does it without charging a fortune for them. At CES 2024, the company showed off two new upcoming projectors: the IMAX Enhanced certified Horizon Max, the company's brightest projector to date that features a neat precision gimbal system for auto keystoning and some smart screen adaptation tech, and the unique Aladdin, a 3-in-one smart home ceiling lamp, speaker, and projector. I checked it all out at the company's busy CES 2024 booth.
Xgimi Horizon Max
Building off of the success of last year’s Horizon Ultra 4K projector that boasted support for Dolby Vision, Xgimi (pronounced "ex-jeemee") hopes to strike gold again with the Horizon Max. Xgimi says the Horizon Max is the “World’s first long-throw projector to feature the IMAX Enhanced certification.”

Epson’s EpiqVision Ultra LS650 is a new option for fans of UST laser projectors
Epson EpiqVision Ultra LS650.

Epson has a new 4K ultra short throw (UST) laser projector to add to its arsenal. The EpiqVision Ultra LS650 Smart Streaming Laser Projector boasts a three-chip imaging system with a claimed 3,600 lumens of brightness, for images that can scale as large as 120 diagonal inches. The LS650 will come in white or black, however Epson won't be sharing pricing or availability until late October. Given where the new model sits in Epson's lineup, it should be more affordable than its EpiqVision Ultra LS800 flasghip.

Ultra short throw laser projectors  -- and their very similar cousins, the laser TV -- are a great way to project big, vivid images onto just about any flat surface without needing to place a noisy projector in the middle of your living room. The EpiqVision Ultra LS650 should be an ideal way to do just that.
