Splitgate: The best plays we’ve seen in the hit shooter

First-person shooter game Splitgate is an absolute blast to play, and nearly as fun to watch. Since it exploded in popularity in July 2021, thousands of players have flocked to it, leading to lots of exciting gameplay clips being shared online. Something about the fast-paced nature of Splitgate makes it mesmerizing to watch, especially when players make good use of the portals. The portal mechanic allows players to traverse the map quickly, while also rewarding them for strategic planning and positioning. Other times, players are simply impressively accurate with their shots, which is just as satisfying to witness.

To show you just how exhilarating Splitgate can be to watch, we’ve rounded up some of the best clips on the internet, including a wide variety of expert plays across the board. From players who specialize in long-range battles, to fantastic uses of portals, and even some calculated rocket shots, these are the best Splitgate plays.

Perfect Dark: everything we know so far
Joanna Dark posing with a pistol.

We haven't seen or heard from secret agent Joanna Dark since the launch of the Xbox 360, and that's not because she's undercover. A new entry in this cult classic firstperson shooter series was revealed in 2020, but seemed to vanish into thin air between then and now. Thankfully, we have signs of life for this project from The Initiative and reason to start getting excited. You don't need to go back and play the old games to catch up with Agent Dark for the upcoming Perfect Dark when we can fully brief you right here on all the details of this upcoming spy-thriller.
Release date speculation

Between the first trailer in 2020 and the latest at the 2024 Xbox Games Showcase, Perfect Dark has never had even a release window presented. Based on all the rumored turmoil and development woes behind the scenes, it seems like this project didn't really get started until quite recently. With no window given, we speculate it won't be ready until 2026 at the earliest.

The best games we played at Summer Game Fest 2024
A warrior faces down a dragon in Phantom Blade Zero.

It's been a long seven days here at Digital Trends. While gaming fans may have had a busy few days thanks to live broadcasts like Xbox Games Showcase and Ubisoft Forward, we were on the ground in Los Angeles for a full week full of hands-on demos and previews. Over that time, we played more games than we can count, from big fall releases like Metaphor: ReFantazio to smaller titles like Bounty Star. The big takeaway? Even if the game industry is currently facing a rocky moment, plenty of developers are still pouring their hearts and souls into making great games.

There's so much that we've already written about already (and so much more coming), but we want to highlight some of the best games we played over the past week. Our picks represent a wide selection of games, from tentpole console exclusives to indies made by one or two developers. Each one is entirely different from the others, showing that passion and creativity are still thriving even in the industry's toughest moment.
