Samsung sends surprise invites for Galaxy Unpacked Part 2 on October 20

We’re barely done with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 launch, but Samsung Galaxy Unpacked Part 2 is already official. The event is scheduled 7 a.m. PT/10 a.m. ET on October 20, and Samsung says we’re all invited to watch the livestream on Samsung’s YouTube channel. All that’s left to do is wait and wonder what they have planned.

Samsung holds events a few times each year. A new lineup of Galaxy S21 phones was announced in January, and the event in March was all about laptops. The most recent Unpacked event introduced several new products, including a new Galaxy Watch 4, Galaxy Buds 2, and the much-anticipated Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3. Since all that happened in August, what’s left to announce? It’s hard to say.

There probably won’t be a Galaxy S21 FE

Last year’s late-September launch event featured the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition (FE), but we’re not expecting to see a new one this year. The Galaxy S21 FE was originally going to launch in mid-October, but the launch was reportedly canceled due to a chip shortage affecting the mobile market.

While the chip issue could have been resolved, a report from Korean news site Digital Daily makes a launch of this device seem unlikely. It quoted a Samsung official as saying: “We are reviewing the smartphone launch itself.”

How about a Galaxy Note 21? Don’t get your hopes up

It’s probably not going to be a Galaxy Note 21, either. Aside from rumors of it also being canceled, foldable devices are a natural replacement for Note phones. Foldable smartphones are as small as a regular smartphone, and they have as much room for productivity as a tablet. Now that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 supports the S Pen, how can the Galaxy Note compete?

Wait and see

This year, users are invited to Galaxy Unpacked Part 2 “to see how Samsung is opening up new experiences for self-expression through technology.”

That doesn’t fuel much speculation, but at least we know what not to expect. The wait will end when the event starts at 7 a.m. PT/10 a.m. ET on October 20 . You can watch the stream on YouTube and follow along with the news being posted in Samsung Newsroom. We’ll be doing our own coverage as well, of course.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 release date may have leaked

The next major smartphone release is approaching quickly. According to tipster Abhishek Yadav (via SamMobile), Samsung is set to launch its Galaxy S25 series on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. While earlier rumors suggested that the actual date might be January 23, it’s clear that the arrival of the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Plus, and Galaxy S25 Ultra is imminent.

It is not yet known whether January 22 is the date when Samsung will announce the new phones at an Unpacked event or if it is the official launch date. Earlier this year, the company announced the Galaxy S24 series on January 17, with a release date set for January 31.

Bad news, Samsung fans. The Galaxy S25 series might get a price increase

The Samsung Galaxy S25's rumored launch date is just over a month away, but leaks still pour in seemingly every day. Unfortunately, the latest bears bad news: a potential price hike. The Galaxy S25 price may rise by roughly 150,000 won (around $105 USD), according to The JoongAng newspaper. The South Korean Won (KRW) has weakened compared to the USD (and currently sits at around 1,432 won to 1 USD), which means higher costs for importing components, according to Yonhap News, a South Korean news site.

The average price of Samsung devices is lower in foreign markets compared to Korea, but a major change in the home market pricing will spill over into foreign pricing, too. The recent political turmoil in South Korea, paired with increased exchange rates, is apparently driving the potential increase. The Samsung Galaxy S24 launched at $800 for the base model. The potential price increase means the Galaxy S25 could start at $900 or higher. Following that trend, we could see a starting price of $1,000 for the Galaxy S25 Plus and $1,400 for the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The S24 Ultra was already $100 more expensive than the previous generation.

There’s a new Samsung Galaxy S25 spec leak, and it’s a bit disappointing

The Samsung Galaxy S25 series is still a couple of months away, but a new leak from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) website, first spotted by 91Mobiles, has given us a major sneak peek of what to expect. While a few of these specs were already expected, some others are a bit, well, disappointing.

From the FCC listings, there appear to be three models for the S25 line: SM–931U, SM–936U, and SM–938U. All three models will support 5G, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GNSS, and NFC connectivity. There is also mention of two models having an ultrawide band on them, but it looks to be just the Galaxy S25 Plus and S25 Ultra, which means the base model S25 will lack UWB. Features that use UWB include precision tracking with item trackers or locating lost devices, so those who end up with the base model S25 will miss out on such features.
