Austin Butler brings back the King in first Elvis trailer

The late Elvis Presley was such an iconic performer that we don’t even have to refer to him by his full name. Elvis was the King of Rock and Roll, and now he’s getting a lavish biopic from director Baz Luhrmann. Warner Bros. has debuted the first trailer from Elvis, with Austin Butler in the title role. And according to the studio, Butler is actually singing in the trailer with his best approximation of Elvis’ famous voice.

The trailer also appears to take place from the point of view of Presley’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker. Finch‘s Tom Hanks will portray Parker in the film, and he narrates a few scenes in the trailer while watching Elvis perform for the first time before deciding to make sure that their destinies are intertwined.

A good deal of time is spent with Elvis’ younger years in the trailer, including his romance with Priscilla Presley (Olivia DeJonge). It also shows flashbacks that reveal how young Elvis’ sound and gyrations were inspired by Black religious celebrations. There are even glimpses of Austin as the older Elvis in decline from the late ’60s and into the ’70s. But the King still had one major comeback up his very long sleeves.

Elvis star Austin Butler may portray Feyd-Rautha in Dune 2
Austin Butler as Elvis.

Austin Butler is already poised to have a breakout year thanks to his leading role in the upcoming Elvis Presley biopic. But if Butler closes his latest deal, he may have a big role waiting for him in 2023 as well. Variety is reporting that Butler is in negotiations to portray Feyd-Rautha, one of the primary villains in Dune: Part Two.

In Frank Herbert's seminal sci-fi novel Dune, Feyd-Rautha is the heir to House Harkonnen's empire. He is noted for his sadistic streak, as well as his ruthless approach when dealing with his enemies. Feyd-Rautha is also the nephew of Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, the leader of House Harkonnen who wants to put Feyd in a position where he could become the next emperor of the galaxy. Sting memorably portrayed the character in David Lynch's 1984 adaptation of Dune, which saw The Police front man step out of a steam bath in nothing but a futuristic G-string.

Keanu Reeves is Batman in DC League of Super-Pets trailer
Ace and Batman in DC League of Super-Pets.

This weekend, movie theaters belonged to The Batman as Robert Pattinson stepped into the title role to make it his own. However, he's not the only Batman in the multiverse, or even the only Batman that will make his debut this year. Ahead of the film, Warner Bros. Pictures premiered a new trailer for the kid-friendly stand-alone animated film DC League of Super-Pets. And in this footage, the Dark Knight was voiced by none other than Keanu Reeves.

Reeves is best known for his leading roles in The Matrix and John Wick films. He might be a little too old to pull off a live-action Batman, but in animation, Reeves gets to embrace the two sides of the Caped Crusader. He's the grim avenger of the night, as well as a softer hero with a heart who can't resist the charms of his new pet, Ace the Bat-Hound.
