Valve’s ratings for Steam Deck games come in four varieties: Unknown, unsupported, playable, and verified. While users won’t be able to play any games that are labeled unsupported, playable and unknown games are more of a tossup. Some settings may have to be tweaked, text may be too small for the Steam Deck’s screen, or the console’s touchscreen may have to be used.

Luckily, Elden Ring falls into that last group, verified, meaning users will be able to play the game without a single hitch. As soon as it boots up, they can get right into the world of The Lands Between.

What’s not clear is how taxing Elden Ring will be for the handheld console. Users likely won’t be playing the game at 1080p and 60 frames per second, but a game’s settings can dramatically affect the Steam Deck’s battery life. If Elden Ring sports a robust menu of PC settings, players will be able to turn the game’s fidelity down enough to the point where it should be playable for a decent amount of time.

Anyone who wants to revisit some of FromSoftware’s other games will also be able to do so without any hassles on the Steam Deck. Sekiro: Shadows Die TwiceDark Souls 3, and Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin are all verified for Steam Deck. Dark Souls 2 itself hasn’t been tested yet and the original Dark Souls is only playable.

New Elden Ring patch will make those early DLC hours a lot easier
One of Shadow of the Erdtree's bosses, Divine Beast Dancing Lion.

A lot of people have been having trouble with Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, due to both general FromSoftware game difficulty and changes made to the leveling system once you get to the DLC area. A tiny patch issued Wednesday aims to help with that.

Calibration Update 1.12.2 tweaks two things regarding the Scadutree Blessing, a DLC-exclusive blessing that allows you to deal and take more damage as you upgrade it. The patch increases attack and damage negation for the first half of the upgrade tree, with the second half being "more gradual." It also increased the blessing's final level, so players who max it out will benefit more.

Steam will finally let you record your gameplay, even on Steam Deck
Using the game recording feature on a Steam Deck.

Steam, the popular game launcher and storefront run by Valve, is finally testing a feature that would allow players to record gameplay clips right from the Steam app.

It announced the "Game Recording Beta" in a Steamworks Development Events blog and with a dedicated web page Wednesday afternoon. The gist of Steam Game Recording is that players will be able to record footage of themselves playing a game in the background while using Steam. This has multiple uses. Using the Steam Overlay, players will be able to replay clips of gameplay they just captured and find "key moments" from their playtime through event markers on something Valve calls the Steam Timeline.

All Map Fragment locations in Shadow of the Erdtree
The golden Erdtree in Shadow of the Erdtree.

What made the experience of Elden Ring so special was how it handled its open-world design. There was a bit of concern about FromSoftware combining the Souls-style combat and map design into an open world, but the result has become one of the most celebrated examples of how open-world design should be done. So, needless to say, everyone was itching for that map to get expanded with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. The Land of Shadows is a separate new zone added to the game, but it is far larger and more dense than anyone anticipated. As it was in the base game, just exploring the map won't uncover the map for you. To do that, you need to find Map Fragments hidden around the world. There are five to collect to fully reveal the Land of Shadows, so go get them first to get a good lay of the land early.
All Map Fragment locations
As mentioned, there are five Map Fragments in total that correspond to five areas in Shadow of the Erdtree. We'll go through them in the general order you should come across them.
Gravesite Plain

The first area you start in when beginning Shadow of the Erdtree is the Gravesite Plain. Simply ride forward across the field toward the pillar beside the road to collect it.
