PlayStation Plus adds God of War and more ahead of revamp

Sony has announced its PlayStation Plus lineup for June, and it includes God of War, Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker, and Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl.

For some, God of War may feel like an odd choice for a free monthly release, as the game is already available via the PlayStation Plus Collection for PlayStation 5 subscribers and will be featured in the Extra tier of Sony’s PlayStation Plus revamp, which launches in the U.S. on June 13. Even so, adding the 2018 hit title is likely just Sony’s attempt to build hype for the upcoming sequel God of War Ragnarok, which may receive a release date very soon.

Meanwhile, Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker is a 4v4 multiplayer title filled to the brim with popular characters from the franchise, and it continues to receive regular DLC releases. The game’s Season Pass 5 was revealed a few weeks ago, promising to bring with it more characters and a host of quality-of-life updates.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is a platformer brawler in the same vein as Nintendo’s hit Super Smash Bros. series, pitting players against one another as classic Nickelodeon characters like SpongeBob, Oblina, Nigel Thornberry, and many more. It received plenty of attention from genre fans when it launched last year, but interest in the game seemed to wane quickly. A release on PlayStation Plus may be just what it needs to gain back some momentum.

You can download all three new PS Plus games beginning Tuesday, June 7. Until then, May’s games – which include FIFA 22, Tribes of Midgard, and Curse of the Dead Gods – are all still available to add to your library. PlayStation Plus will also expand with more expensive Extra and Premium tiers on June 13, making this a significant month for the service.

If there’s one thing that the PlayStation Vita delivered, it was great Monster Hunter clones after Capcom’s hit series jumped ship from PSP to Nintendo 3DS. The list included games like Koei Tecmo’s Toukiden, Bandai Namco’s God Eater, and Gungho’s Ragnarok Odyssey Ace. While these mission-based games were perfect fit for the Vita’s pick-up-and-play lifestyle, they were also available on PS3.

Sony Japan even joined into the fray with the 2015 Vita exclusive Freedom Wars, which is celebrating its 10-year anniversary with a remaster on modern platforms next January, courtesy of Bandai Namco. On the heels of that surprise announcement, there’s one other hunting action game that needs to break free from the Vita’s shackles: Soul Sacrifice Delta. It's an enhanced version of 2013's Soul Sacrifice that added more content and gameplay adjustments.

Soul Sacrifice Delta was released in 2014 and designed by Keiji Inafune (yes, the auteur behind the infamous Mighty No. 9). It plays like how you’d expect from a Monster Hunter-like action game. You can hunt down your main target and hit its weak points to gather materials and create stronger weapons. It’s an engaging gameplay loop that makes sure you’re always prepared to fight increasingly stronger monsters.

PlayStation has quietly doubled the price of Horizon Zero Dawn on PS4

Following the announcement of Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered for the PlayStation 5 and PC, PlayStation has raised the price of the original game's PlayStation 4 Complete Edition by $20 on the PlayStation Store.

As that edition of the game had been retailing for $20 for a couple of years now, that means PlayStation has doubled the price without warning.

PlayStation’s 30th anniversary PS5 collection is pure nostalgia

PlayStation already announced that it's planning a variety of releases and other surprises for its 30th anniversary, and on Thursday, it revealed a collection of special-edition consoles and accessories that bring back a flood of memories.

The company is selling two bundles: a PlayStation 5 Digital Edition with a 1TB solid-state drive and a PlayStation 5 Pro with a 2TB solid-state drive and some extra goodies, like a DualSense Edge and controller charging station. The disc drive is still sold separately, although you do get a vertical stand this time. Both bundles come with a cable connector, four cable ties in PlayStation face button shapes, a sticker, a poster, and a PlayStation Paperclip. You can also get the DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers separately, along with a PlayStation Portal.
