Could another X-Files movie be on the way?

Rumors of a third X-Files movie have been circulating almost since the second film, The X-Files: I Want To Believe hit theaters in 2008. While that film wasn’t exactly a roaring success at the box office, that hasn’t stopped fans — and apparently, the cast — from speculating about the possibility of another adventure with Dana Scully and Fox Mulder.

“We’re hoping to [do another X-Files film],” said franchise actress Gillian Anderson during an interview with Australian movie site TheFIX. “That’s something that we’ve said from the beginning — that we’d be interested in doing it if it ever came up again.”

Anderson was doing press rounds for the Australian premiere of Rowan Atkinson’s Johnny English Reborn, but ended up weighing in one the possibility of more X-Files down the road. According to Anderson, given all of the apocalyptic connotations of the year 2012, the time couldn’t be better for revisiting the FBI duo’s alien-mystery adventures.

“I know that there are some discussions about it, [but] I have no idea at what stage,” she continued. “There might a script. [I don't know] how interested Fox is in doing it.”

“We’re all hoping that it’s something that might take place,” she added. “But they better hurry. 2012, which is the perfect subject matter, is coming up quickly.”

So there you have it, X-Files fans. Go ahead and say it with us now, it’s okay: We want to believe.

2024 is shaping up to be an interesting year at the box office. A woman grabs a man's face in Joker 2.

If there's something that comic book fans and movie studios can agree on, it's that we'd all like to put 2023 in our rearview mirror. With the exceptions of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, almost every comic book movie failed or severely underperformed this year. Even DC's Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom opened to dismal numbers last weekend, which is why it's probably a good thing that 2024 only has two major comic book movies on the horizon.

To get you ready for the year ahead, we're sharing our picks for the seven most anticipated comic book movies and shows of 2024. If superhero cinema and streaming shows are going to make a comeback, then it starts here.

10 best episodes of The X-Files, ranked
Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny in The X-Files.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of The X-Files, one of the most popular genre shows in the history of network TV. Over the course of nine seasons, from 1993 to 2002, series creator Chris Carter and his team of writers took viewers inside some of the strangest and the most horrifying cases of the paranormal that they could imagine. Anything from aliens to demons and monsters was in play, while the show developed its own mythology and an overarching story.

In honor of the show's 30th anniversary, we're looking back at the 10 best episodes of The X-Files and ranking them from worst to best. Unlike some of the previous best-of lists for this show, we're not focusing only on the standalone episodes or the monsters-of-the-week installments. It's become fashionable to bash the show's mythology episodes because Carter and Company couldn't bring the story to a satisfying resolution. But those episodes were a large part of the reason why this show was so fantastic in its prime, and it would be a disservice to the series itself if we didn't give those stories their due.
