It’s not often that we hear about at a table that makes us as giddy as a 9-year-old on Christmas morning. But then again, it’s not often that anybody makes tables like Ideum’s MT55 Platform and MT55 Pro multi-touch designs.
Constructed from aircraft grade aluminum, these two tables are not made to hold your plate and glass; they’re made for some serious multimedia consumption. More a gigantic iPad than a tabletop, the MT55 Platform design sports a 55-inch multi-touch LCD display – the largest touchscreen table display anywhere — capable of full 1920-by-1080 high-definition video. The screen has an impressive 5,000,000: 1 contrast ratio, and has a maximum viewing angle of 178 degrees.
The display is covered in ultra-high-qulaity, non-reflective, scratch- and finger print-resistant Sevasa HapticGlass, and includes 32 individual touchpoints for seamless tactile navigation, Powering the MT55 Platform’s massive touchscreen goodness isan integrated Hyper-Threaded dual-core Intel i5 or i7 processor, 8GB of RAM and a 128GB solid state drive. Windows 7 comes pre-loaded, and the MT55 Platform is fully multi-touch out of the box.
Of course, the MT55 Platform can connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. A number of HDMI ports come standard, allowing to port an image of the screen onto a television or through a projector. BlueTooth connectivity, headphone jack and USB 2.0 are also included.
Ideum’s other multi-touch table offering is the MT55 Pro, which, you guessed it, is just a little bit better. The dual-core processor of the MT55 is replaced with a quad-core 2.93GHz Intel i7 processor, 8GB of RAM, two 250GB SATA II hard drives. A NVIDIA Quadro 600 PCI video card with 1GB of RAM is also included in the MT55 Pro.
Adding to the additional awesomeness of the MT55 Pro is an integrated Bose Articulated Array 191 sound system, giving the table some major bumping power.
The primary downside to both the Platform and Pro tables is the price. The MT55 Platform will put you out $17,950. The Pro – $21,950. Still, the look on your friend’s face when he see that your new table is out of a science fiction movie, well, that’s priceless.
