Sony’s 3D display gets November U.S. release date

Sony’s snazzy 24-inch 3D display, which you folks remember was unveiled at E3 earlier this year, just got release dates. Japan is most likely getting it earlier, but the 3D Display will be launched for the U.S. and UK November 13; just in time for the holidays.

For $500 you’ll get the 3D display along with one pair of the 3D glasses (a $70 value), an HDMI cable and a copy of MotorStorm Apocalypse. Those of you that preordered on or before the end of September will still be getting a free copy of Resistance 3.

The 24-inch offers full HD (1920×1080), built-in stereo speakers and an integrated subwoofer. Input/output-wise, the display comes with two HDMI 1.4 inputs, a component input and a stereo headphone output.

Of course, the main draw is the SimulView which allows two different users, wearing individual 3D glasses, to view their own unique 2D full-screen image simultaneously. No need for split-screen, and no more screen peeking for those first-person shooter matches. According to Sony, the glasses’ lithium ion battery gets three hours of use from a three-minute charge, and more than a full day’s use from a 45-minute charge.

The Sony display still supports high-def 2D, and is optimized for any HD gaming console. At launch, you’ll be able to use SimulView with MotorStorm Apocalypse, Gran Turismo 5, Super Stardust HD and Killzone 3.

In more Sony 3D news, VG247 points out that the company’s other E3 darling, the HMZ-T1 stereoscopic 3D headset will be heading to the UK on December 8, with a Japan release on November 11. The device uses two 0.7 inch OLED screens to deliver an immersive virtual theater experience and will be sold for $800.

You can see how beaten down your weapon is in the inventory by highlighting it or based on the color of the broken shield icon. If that icon appears at all, you can expect jams to start popping up.

Unless you played any of the previous games, it might come as a surprise to learn just how many immersive sim elements are in Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl.
