Marvel Snap gets some big quality of life changes in new update

Nuverse released a sizable Marvel Snap update on November 3 that brings numerous quality of life improvements across the board. Most notably, a new Titles feature has been added, along with improvements to the Wolfsbane and Dagger cards, among many other visual and audio changes.

Titles are new items added to the reward pool that are similar to avatars and card backs. These will appear on the Matchmaking screen as you load into a game, offering a bit more customization.

Both Wolfsbane and Dagger have been updated and will now count unrevealed cards toward their Power buffs, making them slightly more effective. The Daredevil card is now featured as part of Card Series 3, and Nick Fury is included as part of the Random Pool, meaning you can pull it from sources like X-Mansion and Agent 13.

Marvel Snap has also received art, visual, and audio improvements across the board. Nuverse has updated the Foil and Prism Mods to be more clearly visible, and has added general polish to the UI, game board, and buttons. There are also new location sounds for Attilan, Muir Island, Nidavellir, Sewer System, and many others.

Numerous bug fixes have also been implemented, including fixes for avatars not showing up and a major error that caused some purchases to occur twice. Nuverse has also fixed an issue that would cause art to display as the wrong location prior to being revealed (this only occurred on the PC version of Marvel Snap).

The free update is available to download across all versions of Marvel Snap now.

Marvel Snap’s latest feature stopped me from quitting the game
Key art for Marvel Snap Alliances.

I've played Marvel Snap almost every day since May 2022, essentially making it a daily hobby for myself. But the disastrous launch of Deadpool's Diner almost made me quit the comics-based collectible card game (CCG) last month.

My hobby started to feel more like work. Excitement for the first new mode to hit the game in over a year transformed into dread when it asked me to spend real money or wait over an hour after losing my first game and all of my mode-specific currency along with it. While Second Dinner eventually fixed Deadpool's Diner to make it more newcomer-friendly, playing this high-stakes mode to get Cassandra Nova burnt me out because it did something Marvel Snap never had before: it made losing not fun.

Steam hit Balatro is getting a big free update next year
A list of Jokers stacked together from Balatro.

Balatro, the roguelike poker indie game that captured the attention of many players earlier this year, isn't stopping any time soon. In a Tuesday announcement, developer LocalThunk revealed that a big free update is coming next year.

The update will bring "new ideas and strategies" to the game, and it'll all come out across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PC via Steam, and Switch. This is the first of three announcements publisher Playstack and LocalThunk have planned for now through September, but the two are keeping their cards close to the chest. There isn't any word on what the other announcements might entail, but they'll be revealed at "undisclosed times."

No Man’s Sky is getting a Starship Troopers mode in huge new update
A No Man's Sky character in an orange space suit standing in front of a dead alien, with the ship in the background.

No Man's Sky, the open-world space discovery game, has become known for great community support and reinvention. In an announcement on Wednesday, it looks like that will continue with Update 5.0 -- officially called Worlds Part 1. This is because, as Hello Game founder Sean Murray says, "there's much more to come."

As with other No Man's Sky updates, the team is adding more planets, biomes, plants, and creatures. However, this is looking to be a huge technology upgrade that makes the game look more "realistic" and dynamic. It also adds a bug-hunting mode that is "Starship Troopers-inspired," according to Murray, which seems ... familiar.
