Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will now release in April following delay

EA and Respawn Entertainment need a bit more time to create Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, so the game has been delayed until April 28.

Originally set to release on March 17 at The Game Awards 2022, this delay pushes the highly anticipated Star Wars game back by more than a month. In a tweet explaining the delay, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor director Stig Asmussen explains that the game is “content complete,” but needs more time to “enhance performance, stability, polish, and most importantly, the player experience.” Ultimately, he believes this six-week delay will allow the development team “to hit the Respawn quality bar, provide the team the time they need, and achieve the level of polish our fans deserve.” You can read the full message in the tweet below:

Thankfully, a six-week delay isn’t that lengthy in the video game industry, so Star Wars fans will only have to wait a little while longer to experience Cal Kestis’ next adventure. Today hasn’t been the best for Respawn Entertainment fans, though, as the developer also announced it would shut down the mobile version of Apex Legends.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is the sequel to 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, a single-player action-adventure game that followed the journey of former Padawan Cal Kestis between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. This sequel takes place five years after that game, with Cal Kestis actor Cameron Monaghan telling Digital Trends that the narrative has an “emotionally complicated center where we’re exploring some challenging questions.” Hopefully, that all makes this game worth the wait.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor now releases for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S on April 28.

Star Wars Outlaws has a surprising connection to Solo
Emilia Clarke as Qi'ra in Solo: A Star Wars Story promo material.

Star Wars Outlaws may feature a brand new smuggler character named Kay Vess, but it will include plenty of returning characters from the Star Wars movies as well. Lando Calrissian and a carbonite-frozen Han Solo have both appeared in the game's trailers, while characters like Jabba the Hutt and Qi'ra return as leaders of some of the criminal underworld Syndicates that players must work with. Lead writer Nikki Foy told Digital Trends at a Star Wars Outlaws preview event that bringing characters like Qi'ra back was taken very seriously.

"It's a huge responsibility. I think these are characters that belong to so many people. They're beloved by them as they've grown up with them. Our whole team takes it very seriously when writing for these characters," Foy tells Digital Trends.

Star Wars Outlaws feels like Ubisoft’s own Red Dead Redemption
Kay tries to enter Crimson Dawn territory.

There was plenty to see and do during the four hours I spent with Star Wars Outlaws at a recent preview event. The universe was at my fingertips, but my adventure was at its best when I could simply vibe. My most memorable moment came when walking into a dingy bar on Kijimi from The Rise of Skywalker and playing several rounds of Sabacc, only to walk back to my ship and find some loot to smuggle. It's such moments that sell the smuggler fantasy that Ubisoft is touting as the first open-world Star Wars video game.

Behind all of this, players have to balance their relationships with the five different Syndicates that rule the underworld of the Star Wars galaxy. While I still have questions about how this system will play out in the long term, as well as plenty of nitpicks, the relationship management adds to the sandbox feel of Ubisoft's sci-fi adventure. At its highest points, it feels like Ubisoft's Massive Entertainment is using Star Wars Outlaws to deliver a sci-fi answer to Red Dead Redemption.
Attention to detail
My lengthy Star Wars Outlaws preview began on Toshara, a new planet created by Ubisoft that was the first section of the game that opened up to players. It's here where I met the Pyke, Crimson Dawn, and Hutt syndicates and began forming relationships with each as Kay Vess. For the most part, doing so came through missions that had me exploring Toshara's open world on a speeder bike.

Apex Legends sort of reverses its battle pass changes after backlash
A Legend Upgrade ability is used in Apex Legends.

Respawn Entertainment has decided to reverse one of the most controversial changes to its new Apex Legends battle pass system: the ability to buy a premium battle pass only with real-world currency, although it didn't address other issues.

In a statement released on X (formerly Twitter) and on publisher Electronic Arts' website on Wednesday, the team said they were reinstating the ability to buy the premium battle pass with 950 Apex Coins, which was the price before the announced battle pass updates. Players will also get the chance to unlock a free premium battle pass by completing what it calls "simple" in-game missions during the first half of Season 22.
