What’s new on Showtime in March 2023

Showtime is one of the oldest and most respected cable networks around. Far from a mere rival to HBO, Showtime has aired many memorable shows and movies over the decades, including Homeland, Weeds, Ray Donovan, Shameless, Billions, and more. In recent years, it’s been home to such critically acclaimed series as Yellowjackets, starring Christina Ricci, Melanie Lynskey, and Juliette Lewis, and Your Honor, starring Bryan Cranston and Hope Davis.

Even in the streaming era, Showtime, like its sister network Paramount+, continues to deliver hit after hit. With access to the massive Viacom library, the network airs such diverse programming as the Oscar-nominated sci-fi multiverse epic Everything Everywhere All at Once, the horror movie X, and the Tom Cruise classic Top Gun. The sheer amount of content can be overwhelming, which is why Digital Trends is here to highlight the network’s offering for each month.

The 50 best movies on Netflix right now (December 2024)
Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ken singing in a car in Barbie.

The biggest blockbuster of 2023 has arrived on Netflix just in time to wind down 2024. What is the point of Max if Warner Bros. Discovery is going to just lend out its top titles? Because as of now, Netflix has Barbie, and it's only one Oppenheimer away from having both halves of last year's Barbenheimer phenomenon.

In the absence of Oppenheimer, Netflix does have a brand-new World War II drama, The Six Triple Eight, which hasn't yet become one of the most popular movies on Netflix. By this time next week, we'll be shocked if The Six Triple Eight isn't near the top of that list.

The best movies on Amazon Prime Video (December 2024)
John David Washington in The Creator.

Amazon Prime Video has added some new movies under the tree as an early Christmas gift for subscribers. The Creator has migrated over from Hulu, while The Bikeriders has done the same from Peacock. Neither of those films were blockbusters in theaters, but they're both enjoyable movies that may do well in their new streaming home.

Speaking of movies that weren't successful in theaters, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's Red One has been a big hit on Amazon Prime Video this week. Too bad it was so expensive that even this flurry of success won't help it turn a profit or transform it into the Christmas action franchise that Johnson wanted it to be. Check out the best Christmas movies on Prime Video if you want more holiday cheer. You can find the rest of the best movies on Amazon Prime Video below.

The best mysteries on Netflix right now
Choi Min-sik in Oldboy.

Mysteries are so rare on Netflix that you'd think they were a dying breed. In this case, a classic film genre is dramatically underserved, and if we had to guess why, it probably comes down to Netflix's algorithm. The real enigma we want to be solved is why mystery movies aren't more popular on Netflix.

With not many fresh options to choose from, we're going to go with the classics. This month, we're adding the South Korean thriller Oldboy, as well as one of Alfred Hitchcock's all-time great films, Marnie. You can find those films and the rest of the best mysteries on Netflix below.
