This is the Galaxy Z Flip 5 leak we’ve been waiting for

Editor’s note: The leaked promotional image of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 mentioned in this article has been removed. It’s since been replaced with other previously-shown renders and images of the Z Flip. The original story follows.

There has been a lot of talk about the design of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 over the past few months — mainly revolving around the design of its cover screen. But it seems like we’ve finally gotten a genuine, official look at the foldable.

According to a leaked promotional image of the Z Flip 5 originally shared by MySmartPrice, the foldable will feature a cover screen that covers nearly the entire surface of the Flip 5 when closed. We’ve seen renders of the design in previous leaks, but up until now, we haven’t seen any official images that have confirmed the look of the phone when folded. In addition to the 3.4-inch display, the leaked image also confirms that the Flip 5’s camera array will be rotated 90 degrees from its vertical arrangement on the Galaxy Z Flip 4.

As mentioned above, the design of the Flip 5 in the render isn’t anything we haven’t seen before. However, the fact that it’s a (likely) official image confirms so many things about the design of the foldable that, up until this point, were pure speculation. There are still a handful of questions we have about the Flip 5, but now that we know for sure what it’ll look like, we won’t have to keep speculating about its design.

The render shows two Z Flip 5 phones, each one in a different orientation showing that the screen will be able to rotate with the orientation of the phone. The displays in the image show a picture of a woman and what looks like the Spotify app playing some music, confirming that multiple apps will be able to run on the cover screen. A leak from earlier this month claimed that Samsung and Google would be optimizing certain apps to run specifically on the foldable’s cover screen, and the image gives us a small peek at what that might look like.

Even though there are still a handful of mysteries surrounding the Galaxy Z Flip 5, we won’t have to wait long for our questions to be answered. Although it hasn’t been officially announced yet, leaks point to July 26 as the date of the official reveal and August 11 as the date when both the Z Flip 5 and the Z Fold 5 will be available at retailers.

Forget the Galaxy Z Fold 6. This new folding phone already beat it
Vivo X Fold 3 Pro held in hand.

Foldable phones are pretty darn expensive. This means buying more than one is usually off the table for most folks, including those who already have the money to buy one. So if you buy a foldable that good but not great, you're most likely going to end up with buyer's remorse and even end up hating the form factor altogether.
That brings me to Vivo's newest sideways folding smartphone: the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro. It's the most put-together foldable phone I have used to date, leading with many superlatives in the category. This includes the brightest display on a foldable, the fastest charging on a foldable, and arguably some of the best cameras paired with Zeiss' incredible science. It may very well be the best Android phone -- not just the best foldable -- I have used so far.

The X Fold 3 Pro is Vivo's third Fold, as the name gives away. But it's only the first time that Vivo has the confidence to release it outside of China. The phone is still only selling in parts of Asia for now, and while there is some hope for it to launch in Europe, that may depend on its success in the existing markets. For Vivo, however, it's more of a statement piece than just a product, which is why it has gone above and beyond in making it one of its most likable devices so far.
I have been using the phone for about three weeks, and I feel it challenges the limitations that incumbent leaders in the category blame for their lack of innovation -- save the folding screen. Here's why I thnk it is the best foldable and may have beat the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 even before its formal announcement.

YouTube Flex mode features on Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5.

Foldable and flippable smartphones have been coming into their own over the past year. We now have more fun options than ever before, but as the veteran of folding phones, Samsung’s options still lead the pack in many ways.

That’s especially true for the Galaxy Z Flip series, which reached its prime two years ago with the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and has been on a roll ever since. Last year’s Galaxy Z Flip 5 was hands-down the best flip phone for most folks, and we’re expecting similarly great things from this year’s successor.
