PS Plus Extra subscribers can try two of the month’s biggest PS5 games for free

Both Dave the Diver and Tales of Kenzera: ZAU will launch for PlayStation 5 this month, and both will included in PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra’s Game Catalog from day one.

Dave the Diver will be the first to be added, as its PS5 port launches on April 16. Dave the Diver was a surprise hit when it was released for PC in 2023, standing out as a charming game where players go diving for the seafood they then serve in their sushi restaurant. While it was controversially nominated for best indie at The Game Awards despite being developed by Nexon studio Mintrocket, it’s still a fantastic game and well worth your time when it finally launches on PS5 in a couple of weeks.

Next is Tales of Kenzera: ZAU, an EA Originals game from Surgent Studios that will launch and come to the PS Plus Premium and Extra game catalog on April 23. It’s a Metroidvania made by a studio founded by Abubakar Salim, the voice actor of Basim in Assassin’s Creed Origins. It’s poised to be a heartfelt adventure about processing grief, as Salim made it in the wake of his father’s death. 2024 has been a great year for Metroidvanias, so it’s great that one of its biggest ones will be on PS Plus from day one.

Although new games coming to Xbox Game Pass on the day they release is fairly common at this point, it’s much less common on PS5. Only the occasional indie, like Stray, Tchia, Sea of Stars, and Moving Out 2, has done so. Considering that Dave the Diver is backed by Nexon and Tales of Kenzera: ZAU is published by EA, these are some big days one gets for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium.

If you don’t want to play these games on PlayStation, Dave the Diver is already available for PC and Nintendo Switch, and Tales of Kenzera: ZAU will also launch for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch on April 23.

3 PS Plus games to check out this weekend (September 27-29)
The cast of Far Cry 5 sits at a table.

We're at a point between major PS Plus content drops. We still have a few more days to wait until October's PS Plus Essential additions arrive and a couple of weeks until the PS Plus Premium and Extra Game Catalog is once again bolstered. Thankfully, September's PS Plus Premium and Extra additions were particularly great, so there are still a lot of fantastic games for you to try out. This weekend, I'm spotlighting three games you can play this weekend if you're a PS Plus subscriber and unsure what to try out next.
Far Cry 5

Even six years after its release, Far Cry 5 is still one of Ubisoft's most provocative games. In it, players take on a doomsday cult in a remote part of Montana, exposing the dark underbelly of rural, radicalized America. It also still looks great when played on PS5 in 2024; its opening in particular has some immaculate lighting and facial animation for a game this old. It is otherwise a fairly formulaic and straightforward first-person Ubisoft open-world game, but if you don't mind that Far Cry 5 is a thought-provoking game worth checking out for those who've never played it before. The PS4 version of Far Cry 5 is part of the PS Plus Extra game catalog. It's also on PC and Xbox One.

3 new PS Plus games you should try this weekend (September 20-22)
A card battle in The Plucky Squire.

Sony drops a big batch of new games into the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium Game Catalog around the midpoint of each month. The latest set of games for the subscription service dropped on September 18, and it was a fantastic group of titles. From games that launched right into the service on day one to ones getting PS5 ports right after an appearance in the critically acclaimed Astro Bot, there are plenty of awesome new games to choose from if you're looking for something to play this weekend on PS Plus. If you need more help narrowing those choices down, I'd recommend these three games in particular.
The Plucky Squire

The Plucky Squire is a new indie game from All Possible Futures, a studio led by former Pokémon artist James Turner. It's a love letter to creatives, video games, and the art that inspires people. It plays around with genre a lot. It'll be a top-down action game like The Legend of Zelda as you venture through a storybook before you're forcing to jump out of the book and into the real world, where it becomes a 3D platformer. It's a brisk 6-hour tribute to creativity that honors everything from The Legend of Zelda to Punch Out and Rhythm Heaven, so play through it this weekend if you can. The Plucky Squire is available through PS Plus Extra on PS5. It's also available on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.

3 new PS Plus games to play this weekend (September 13-15)
Naruto characters in Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker.

September has been a roller coaster month for PlayStation fans. While Concord was a disappointing flop in August, September brought the lauded launch of Astro Bot and a solid lineup of PS Plus Essential games. We're still waiting on September's batch of titles, but that means this weekend is the perfect time to check out any stragglers from August's PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra catalog drop or PS Plus Essential's lineup that you have not played yet. That's what I'm recommending you play this weekend.
Little Nightmares II

While platformers are a genre often associated with children, the Little Nightmares series puts a more mature spin on it. These are slow-paced puzzle platformers, like Limbo and Inside, where players slowly solve puzzles in a world full of horrific things. Little Nightmares II was one of this month's PS Plus Essential titles, and it's worth playing if you like games with an eerie twinge to them. A sequel, Little Nightmares III, will launch sometime in 2025, so that's another reason to check this out right now. The PS4 and PS5 versions of Little Nightmares II are available to all PS Plus subscribers until October 1. It's also on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
