You can play this PS2 classic with multiplayer thanks to this mod

Those looking to check out PlayStation 2 classic Jak and Daxter on PC with multiplayer (we know there are a few of you) have some good news thanks to a new community-created mod that was released Wednesday.

First spotted by GamesRadar, the mod, called Teamruns, brings online multiplayer and couch co-op to the OpenGOAL Jak and Daxter project. OpenGOAL has released the first two Jak and Daxter games for PC as native ports (it’s currently working on the third). Its PC port of Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy was released in 2022, while the port for the second game came out in 2023.

While the Jak and Daxter series isn’t known for its multiplayer capabilities (although two games have it, Jak X: Combat Racing and Daxter), Teamruns will allow two players to interact in a shared world. Additionally, Teamruns streamlines cutscenes. Originally, they would interrupt game flow, but now they’ll work in real time, making the whole process feel smoother. This is especially important for playing in multiplayer, where players might get interrupted.

The mod also treats boss battles differently than in the original, recording them in phases. So, if one player dies while fighting, the game will set the battle back one phase. Otherwise, Jak and Daxter will be very familiar — minus how one of your friends will be hopping around inside the game state.

The Teamruns creators say the mod is catered more for speedrunners thanks to features like a built-in timer and automatic leaderboard submission. However, that shouldn’t stop regular players from checking it out. Teamruns has a full installation guide available.

PS5 themes: Can you customize your homescreen?
A person plays Crash Bandicoot using a PS5 DualSense controller.

The PlayStation  launched without many features that we loved from the PS4 . Over the years, a few have come back, but what about themes? These could be earned, downloaded, or purchased, and some even came included with certain games that gave your home screen a new look and background soundtrack related to different games or concepts. This made customizing your home screen that much more fun and personal. However, is this feature on the PS5? Here's whether or not you can put custom themes on your new console or change the background.
Does the PS5 have themes?

No, the PS5 does not have any themes. Instead, whenever you highlight a game or app on your home screen, the background will change to art related to that game, as well as show more information on it. While far from ideal, it is the closest we are likely to get to the themes we had on our PS4.
Can you change the background on a PS5?
Again, due to the PS5 dynamically changing the background depending on what you're currently looking at, there's no way to alter your background at this time. Since the background is constantly changing, even if you had a custom image, it would always be changing as you cycled through games. There are a few other ways you can customize your PS5, however, unless Sony gives us the option with an update, there's no way to set a theme on your PS5.

All confirmed games with PS5 Pro enhancements
A PS5 Pro sits on a table with a DualSense.

The main selling point of the PlayStation 5 Pro is how it will remove the need to decide between quality and performance modes on certain games. Thanks to its new GPU and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology, all the best PS5 games can be played at the highest frame rates without sacrificing visual fidelity. However, this won't apply to every PS5 game by default. Games will need an update to take advantage of the console's new power. If you want to know which of your best-looking PS5 games will get a PS5 Pro enhancement, here is every game confirmed to be getting a boost.

PS6: everything we know about the PlayStation 6 so far
A PS5 DualSense controller.

It sounds like we're going to learn more about a next-generation PlayStation sooner rather than later.

In early 2024, Sony Senior Vice President Naomi Matsuoka told Bloomberg the following: "Looking ahead, PS5 will enter the latter stage of its life cycle." While she didn't outright say that a PlayStation 6 is in the works, we can assume that the company is already looking ahead at its next console.
