A while back, Apple and Google introduced the option to switch iPhones and Android phones into light and dark modes. This feature is also accessible to third-party apps like Snapchat.

Dark mode is a great feature. Whether you want to more comfortably see your phone at night, not disturb people with it in a dark room, or you just prefer how it looks, there are plenty of reasons to love dark mode.

On Snapchat, just like many other apps, the background can be changed automatically based on the time of day or you can manually switch between light and dark modes. Here are the steps to do so on both iOS and Android.

How to turn on dark mode on Snapchat

Whether you're on an iPhone 15, Samsung Galaxy S24, or any other smartphone, the steps to activate dark mode on Snapchat is the same.

Step 1: First, open the Snapchat app on your smartphone.

Step 2: Next, tap on your Bitmoji profile avatar in the top-left corner of the screen. This will allow you to access your Snapchat profile.

Step 3: On the profile screen, select the Settings icon at the top right.

Does Snapchat have a dark mode for Android?

As shown above, you can enable dark mode on Snapchat using an Android device. This wasn’t always the case, but it changed in 2023. Now, the options are the same whether you’re using an iPhone or an Android device.

The YouTube mobile app is getting a small redesign. Here’s what’s changing

How do you feel about the YouTube app on iOS and Android? Most of us use the app and don't think twice about it, but YouTube announced a lot of changes in October. Some of these planned updates have begun to roll out, and they're worth paying attention to — especially because one of them is difficult to notice. The updated bottom bar is a subtle change, but it adds a bit of flair.

The updated bottom bar is part of a server-side update, which means you don't have to download a new version of YouTube to see it. However, you should ensure you're using the latest version of the YouTube app. For Android, that's 19.47, and it's 19.49 for iOS. The update hasn't reached all devices yet — I still don't see it on my own phone — but it should be applied by the end of the day.

I’m obsessed with this app that turned my iPhone into a retro iPod
The My Classic app on an iPhone 16 showing the iPod interface.

As great as modern technology is, sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming. Smartphones today are capable of virtually endless tasks and are light-years better than mobile gadgets from a decade or two ago. Still, it's hard not to have some nostalgia for "retro" devices like the Palm Pilot, the first Motorola Razr, or your trusty old iPod.

While doomscrolling X the other night, I saw that Quinn Nelson of Snazzy Labs had posted a short video about an iPhone app called "My Classic - Retro Console" that promises to turn your iPhone into an iPod Classic. It's a very silly idea, but at a one-time price of $3, it was cheap enough that I decided to try it for myself. After living with my iPhone 16 transformed into an old-school iPod for about a day, I'm absolutely obsessed with it.
