Today’s Summer Game Fest live stream revealed that Palworld, aka Pokémon with guns, will get an update later this month. Pocketpair’s Sakurajima Update introduces new settings, Pals, factions, and more to explore in the so-called Pokémon killer. It’s named after a real island in the Kyushu region of Japan.

The latest Palworld trailer goes through the upcoming features with short clips of each. The new island includes various landscape, from mushroom forests to haunted houses, as well as new buildings for those more interested in customization. New Pals also seem to lean into these environments, like a bulky, skull-faced ghost and an armor-clad knight with a red-feathered helmet. The new Palworld level cap also adds progression for returning players to work toward.

Palworld topped Steam charts when it launched in January 2024 and earned notoriety as an amalgamation of popular series like Pokémon. Since then, the player count has tapered off. However, Pocketpair devs have supported players’ choices, inviting them to return when they want. The Sakurajima update might be what beings them back.

The Palworld Sakurajima update arrives on June 27, 2024. Palworld is available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

I ended up on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’s lamest date. It was perfect for me
Cloud and Aerith on a date.

It was the big moment.

After dozens of hours traveling with my companions, I had made it to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’s “date” sequence. It would be a moment of quiet before what I expected to be a heavy conclusion, one where I’d get to see which of my party members I’d formed the strongest bond with and take them out for a night at the Gold Saucer. I couldn’t wait to see who was waiting for me behind Cloud’s hotel room door. Would it be Aerith? Did I do enough to woo Tifa? I swung the door open and didn’t see anyone at my eye level. My eyes panned down to the floor.

Stalker 2 gets its first big patch with over 650 bug fixes

GSC Game World has released Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl's first big patch for PC and Xbox. It has over 650 fixes across the spectrum, including ones that would prevent the player from progressing and fixing an issue where corpses had terrifyingly long limbs.

The studio posted the Patch 1.0.1 patch notes Friday, and there are almost too many fixes to highlight. The lot features fixes to memory leaks and crashes, NPC behavior, movement issues, objectives that couldn't be completed, and physics where objects would just float. There were also problems with character faces where eyes and teeth just looked ... off. Fixes have been released for those, too.

Now is the perfect time to start playing The Rogue Prince of Persia
Key art for The Rouge Prince of Persia Update 10.

This has been a good year for both early access games and the Prince of Persia franchise. The Rogue Prince of Persia is right at the center of that Venn diagram.

This roguelite, which was externally developed by former Dead Cells developers at Evil Empire and published by Ubisoft, entered Steam early access in May. I already thought it was a very entertaining and satisfying roguelite then, even if it did have clear room for growth and improvement. Today, Ubisoft and Evil Empire released early access Update 10, deemed "The Second Act update," which overhauls The Rouge Prince of Persia in some significant ways. That makes now the perfect time to give this roguelite a shot if you just can’t wait for its 1.0 release.
Goodbye purple
If you need a clear indication that The Rogue Prince of Persia has changed, just look at its player character. Previously, the Prince’s skin color was purple, playing into a very vibrant, comic book-like overall aesthetic. Although The Rogue Prince of Persia retains its colorful art direction, the Prince’s color is now a more natural-looking skin tone. There have also been plenty of other small touch-ups to the art to make it even prettier.
