The best games like Stardew Valley

A player fishes in their local pond.

Working the farm, forming relationships with the townsfolk, and just enjoying the vibe are what make Stardew Valley such a great game to settle into. Easygoing games like this have become incredibly popular — especially for those who don’t typically play games — but it can be hard to find more that offer that same type of experience if you don’t know where to look. The farming and life-sim genre has become a bit bloated as of late with games not quite as polished or fully featured as you would hope. We’ve worked the land and harvested only the ripest games like Stardew Valley to satisfy your desire for more farming-sim goodness.

If we’re going to talk about games like Stardew Valley, it would be irresponsible not to bring up Animal Crossing: New Horizons. All the best elements you love from Stardew are present, and likely expanded, here. You have not only your own home and land to decorate and farm but you can even transform your entire island to your liking. The cast of villagers is smaller, but they’re charming and a joy to meet and make friends with.

Your custom character needs to work with all  your favorite Disney characters to restore the valley back to form. Each character has their own quest and unlocks new items to use, with more Disney franchises being added all the time.

If it’s more of the life-sim aspects you enjoy rather than the farming, then there’s no better game to visit (or revisit) than The Sims 4. There’s a reason this game has been supported for so many years with almost countless additions and content packs added. It’s basically just the most robust and detailed doll house simulator possible, and we don’t mean that in a bad way. You can lose hundreds of hours living your best Sim life and not regret one second of it.

We admit, the name Graveyard Keeper doesn’t exactly sound like a cozy game, but rest assured this fits right beside the likes of Stardew Valley. Just imagine Stardew, but replace your farm with a graveyard and you’re most of the way there. You need to restore a broken-down graveyard, tend to the graves, doing quests for NPCs, and make money with the goal of opening a portal back to your own dimension. Don’t worry, there are also some farming and fishing elements in there too.

The Story of Seasons franchise has picked up where Harvest Moon left off, which itself was the inspiration for Stardew Valley. In Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town, your main character abandons the city life for the simpler lifestyle of the country by restoring their family’s old farm. Besides farming, there’s an entire town of NPCs to meet and marry, plus festivals and other events all the time to make the world feel that much more alive.

For a game like Stardew with a bit more of a fantastical flavor to it, check out Fae Farm. Set in the realm of Azoria, you will do the usual farming, crafting, and relationship building, but also cast spells and do some light combat. The world is bright and soft with adorable critters to interact with and cool ways to customize your character. This game feels like a response to all the requests people have from other sims all wrapped up in one cute package.

The best Roblox Games
Group of Roblox players exploring.

There's a reason Roblox has become one of the most popular video games in the world. Just like Minecraft, the main appeal is how players can freely do and build almost anything. Unlike Minecraft, Roblox doesn't just let players build worlds, but entire games to share. Anyone who picks up the game can learn to design and develop whatever type of game they want, from adventures and RPGs to shooters and puzzle games and more. With millions of users and potential designers, tons of amazing games are waiting to be found on the platform. If you're looking for the best of the best to try out, here are our picks for the current best games in Roblox.
Anime Fighting Simulator X

There are tons and tons of anime games on Roblox, but not all of them are created equal. Anime Fighting Simulator X is kind of your catch-all for characters (called Champions) from all of your favorite anime. In exchange for some currency, you can become legally distinct characters like Goju (Gojo), Mada (Madara), and Might (All Might), as well as many others. You can level each one up and equip them with different skills and abilities by doing adventures and quests. Adventures are a passive way to earn rewards by sending your character on a mission for a duration of time, while quests let you actually fight and explore a massive world. This is one of the most well-supported games on the platform and gets constant updates, so you will always have new Champions and quests to do to get stronger.

The best games you can beat in a day

Games have steadily become larger and larger as the generations go on. Thanks to the most advanced console and PC technology, developers are able to craft massive worlds and stories that would have been impossible in the past. While many of us enjoy sinking our teeth into a meaty 100-hour-long game from time to time, eventually fatigue will set in. That's where games on the other end of the spectrum come in. These games aren't afraid to tell a tight, compact story, or to explore a single gameplay concept, and then call it a day without stretching things out. They are no less impactful or memorable than their massive counterparts, and may even be superior in some player's eyes. Here are a few of the best games you can beat in a single day to cleanse your palate with some more experimental titles.

Is The First Descendant cross-platform?
Key art for The First Descendant.

The best part of the looter-shooter genre is teaming up with your squad to roll through missions over and over, grinding for that legendary drop. The First Descendant is the latest game to enter this space, only it takes a third-person perspective to let you get a better look at your character and the gear you're wearing. The big selling point to this game, aside from the graphics, are the tough boss fights. Yes, you can play this game alone, but it is designed for teams of four to work together to overcome these challenges. Partnering up means connecting with others online, but will this game block you from playing with a friend on a different platform? Let's review all the cross-platform details about The First Descendant before you drop in.
Does The First Descendant have cross-platform support?
When The First Descendant launches on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, it will indeed have crossplay. It was confirmed the game would have it upon release, but even those who played in the beta were able to test out crossplay between all systems.

The other big question is if The First Descendant will allow for cross-progression. Being a free game, the ability to carry progress from one console to the next, or to PC, would be ideal. Thankfully, that feature is also confirmed. All progress can be moved between any available system as much as you like to continue the fight wherever and whenever you please.
