It’s official! Amazon Prime Day 2024 will be on July 16 and 17. Amazon confirmed the dates for the massive shopping holiday earlier today. The announcement was accompanied by a Megan Thee Stallion music video (for her on-the-nose song “It’s Prime Day”) and a few early Prime Day deals.

Amazon confirmed a few weeks ago that the event would be in July, but this announcement is the first we’ve heard of the final dates. July 16 and 17, a Tuesday and Wednesday, are in line with the last several Prime Days, which have taken place in late June or early July since 2021. Before that it was in October, but Amazon likely moved it so as to not overwhelm shoppers with sales so close to Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Prime Day 2024 will see deals on every product you can imagine. We’ve collected some advice for Prime Day shopping, including what you should expect for Prime Day laptop deals, Prime Day TV deals and Prime Day headphone deals. The sales will likely start the weekend before, even if they don’t get the official “Prime Day” label until that Tuesday. Keep an eye on our coverage for picks of the best deals as they come out.

You don’t need to be an Amazon Prime member to get all of the deals, but there will be membership exclusive offers. The cheapest membership option is $15, and you’ll likely get your money back with the first deal you buy. If you haven’t had a Prime membership yet, you could time an Amazon Prime free trial to overlap with Prime Day. The trial is 30 days long, so if you grab that subscription now you will still have it during the event.

Microsoft is giving up control of the Copilot key

In a Windows Insider Blog post, Microsoft recently announced that it is rolling out the Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.4225 (KB5043186) update. It's a relatively small update, but it finally gives users control of the dedicated Copilot key that's showing up on an increasing number of laptops.

In the blog post, Microsoft detailed how it is giving users more customization freedom by adding the option to configure the Copilot key, which can open an app that's MSIX packaged and signed. This is good news since the app meets security and privacy requirements to keep your PC safe. When the option is available more broadly, you should find it by going to Settings > Personalization> Text Input.

Is the iPhone 16 in trouble? Early sales data doesn’t look good
The iPhone 16 laying face-down outside.

The iPhone 16 came out swinging, but its blows might lack a certain oomph. According to AppleInsider, a Morgan Stanley report states that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus sold roughly 37 million units in their first weekend. Despite this, demand appears to be lower than it was for the iPhone 15. This metric is measured in terms of lead times — in other words, how long it takes for your order to arrive once you click that "buy" button.

Lead times are much shorter this year compared to last year, indicating lower demand. Specifically, the times are as follows:

The Samsung Galaxy Watch just got a lot more exciting for developers

Yesterday, Samsung announced a new way for developers to build functionality for its health-tracking features. The Samsung Health Software Development Kit (SDK) Suite opens access to the information gathered through Samsung devices, including the Galaxy Watch. This Suite is broken into four separate parts: the Sensor SDK, the Data SDK, the Accessory SDK, and the research stack.

The Sensor SDK allows developers to utilize the BioActive Sensor algorithm on the Galaxy Watch and updates how it tracks data. It also gives continuous access to advanced functionality for the first time, including infrared and Red LED data. It's able to provide more in-depth measurements of eight existing health indicators like muscle mass and body composition.
