In looking over all the best PS5 games released, there's no shortage of great single and multiplayer experiences to enjoy. Thanks to a built-in friends list, chatting and joining parties with friends has never been easier, especially now that you can use Discord on PS5. On the other hand, sometimes you just want to play solo without anyone bothering you with messages or invites. Or, you may be playing a guilty pleasure and would rather no one else know what you're up to. Whatever the reason, the solution is to appear offline on PS5 so you can play in peace.

How to appear offline on PlayStation 5

Appearing offline on your PS5 is a simple process you can toggle on and off in just a few seconds once you know where the option is.

Step 1: Go to your PS5 home screen.

Step 2: Open the Control Center by selecting the PlayStation button.

Step 3: Scroll over and select the Profile icon.

Step 4: The first option that pops up will be Online Status. Select this option.

Step 5: You can now choose to appear Online, Busy, or Appear Offline. Choose the last option to appear offline until you change the status back.

Sony is not giving up on single-player games despite investing a lot into live-service games over the past few years, with plans to release at least one "major" single-player game every year "from next fiscal year onwards."

The company released its Q2 2024 financial report on Friday, and there was a lot of good news for the video game division despite the high-profile failure of live-service title Concord. Earlier this year. The hero shooter only wracked up a few hundred players on Steam at launch -- only 697 concurrent users at peak, according to SteamDB. Sony Interactive Entertainment took the game offline two weeks after launch before eventually sunsetting it and shutting down developer Firewalk Studios.

When the PlayStation 5 Pro was revealed, the big buzzword to come out of the presentation was PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). This was PlayStation's "secret sauce" intended to sell the $700 upgrade to new customers and existing PS5 owners alike. Similar to AI upscaling seen in technology like DLSS, PSSR allows games rendered at a lower resolution to be upscaled using AI to appear more detailed. For the PS5 Pro, this means removing the need to choose between a performance mode that prioritizes frame rate and a resolution mode that sacrifices frame rate for a clearer picture.

PSSR is the first time any kind of AI upscaling has been used on consoles ... and will be key in PlayStation's success for its true next-generation console.
Sidestepping the graphical arms race
With rare exceptions, new game consoles have mainly sold themselves based on providing a graphical leap above its predecessor. This was clear as day going from 8- to 16-bit systems, and perhaps at its peak going from 16-bit to 3D, but has since hit a level of diminishing returns. PS5 games are undeniably better looking than PS4 games of the same scale, but the differences are in the margins.
