Concord is committing to at least three seasons after its launch next week

Concord is releasing next week, so it was about time we got its post-launch road map. Publisher PlayStation revealed plans for the game’s first season on Tuesday in a blog post. Among other things, it said that developer Firewalk Studios is committed to around three seasons.

Concord Season 1: Tempest will debut in October with a new playable Freegunner you can add to your roster (16 will be available at launch, along with eight variants that add modifiers to a character), along with a new map, new variants, and more cosmetics. Concord has been marketed as a live-service first-person team shooter with a narrative that’s revealed as you play, so there will be new story cinematics to watch, too.

Concord is also not like other live-service titles, which typically feature some kind of premium battle pass. Instead, it’ll have a store full of optional cosmetics that the developer promises will “have no gameplay impact” and will “supplement the hundreds of rewards earnable through progression.” These weren’t available during the two beta periods last month, but will launch with Season 1.

Firewalk Studios is also planning for a second season in January. While there aren’t many specifics available yet, it’ll also come with a new Freegunner, new cosmetics, and a new series of weekly vignettes that expand on the story. Unlike Season 1, which will just bring a new map, Season 2 will bring a new map along with a new game mode. If you look closely at the official graphic below, you can see something that looks like another season launching in April, which works out to a new major content drop every three months.

Concord is set to launch on August 23 for PlayStation 5 and PC, but those who preordered the deluxe edition get 72 hours early access starting on August 20. Preloading is also now available.

Is Concord cross-platform?
Two characters face off in Concord.

The newest game in the live-service hero shooter space is PlayStation's own Concord. Set in a somewhat '70s-inspired sci-fi setting, you will fight in teams of mercenaries known as Freegunners in various game modes. Each Freegunner has their own weapon, ability, and roles to stand out from the pack. One aspect that makes Concord unique is that it is attempting to weave an ongoing narrative into the game despite being multiplayer only. Since these games live and die based on how many people are playing it, one would hope PlayStation decided to make Concord cross-platform. Here's how it's handled this time around.
Is Concord cross-platform
Yes, Concord has cross-platform support on both PS5 and PC, which are the only two platforms it is available on. This means, much like Helldivers 2, PC and PS5 players can both team up and battle against one another in the same games and not be relegated to different servers. However, for PC players this does mean Concord requires a PSN account, which has been a point of consternation in the past.

Concord also allows for cross-progression. While you would need to purchase the game twice, if you ever did decide to switch from PS5 to PC, or vice versa, all your unlocks, levels, and cosmetics would stay with you on your account once you picked the game up on the other platform.

You’ll have 2 chances to try PlayStation’s Concord this July
Three characters holding guns and running down a hallway in Concord.

Concord, PlayStation's upcoming PvP hero shooter, is one step closer to releasing, with two beta periods now set for July ahead of its August 23 launch.

This will be the first time many people will get to play the game, although those who preorder it will have a bit of an advantage. The company, along with developer Firewalk Studios, announced on Thursday that the first beta period, from July 12-14, will be for those who preorder the game and up to four of their friends. This will be followed by an open beta from July 18-21. Both betas will be for PlayStation 5 and PC, and crossplay will be enabled.

Helldivers 2 just got some long-requested changes in its new patch
Four soldiers walk in front of a blue Super Earth flag in the Helldivers 2 trailer.

Players have been eagerly waiting for another Helldivers 2 update, and now it's here, bringing with it massive updates to Stratagems, the galactic map, lobbies, and more.

Patch 01.000.400 released on Thursday, and the patch notes are quite extensive. What most players will notice though are the balance changes to certain weaker Stratagems. For example, the Orbital Gatling Barrage got an increased fire rate, more rounds, increased armor penetration, and a decreased cooldown time. The MG-206 Heavy Machine Gun can now deal more projectile damage -- increased from 100 to 150 -- and decreased reload time, although it also got a slightly decreased fire rate.
