The third State of Play showcase of 2024 just took place and brought some major announcements with it. Throughout this 30-plus minute show, Sony and its third-party partners showcased over 20 games coming to PlayStation 5 and PSVR2 in the coming months. We got a new look at PS5 games like Lego Horizon Adventures and Monster Hunter Wilds, as well as some exciting new announcements such as Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered , which was leaked by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), and the Ghost of Tsushima sequel Ghost of Yōtei.

We also got to see some more games that will run on PS5 Pro hardware (its set to release this November). September’s State of Play was a big one PlayStation fans, so there’s a lot to keep track of. To help, we’ve rounded up everything announced during this State of Play.

Astro Bot is getting a major update this fall

Astro Bot - Speedrun and Special Bots Add-On Trailer | PS5 Games

To kick off the State of Play, we learned that Team Asobi’s critical darling Astro Bot will be getting a significant update. It will add five new online speedrun levels and 10 new bots based on games like Helldivers 2 and Stellar Blade. This new content for Astro Bot will be entirely free and launch sometime this fall on the PS5.

Palworld is out now on PS5

Palworld - Launch Trailer | PS5 Games

Palworld launched on PC and Xbox Series X/S and became a viral success early this year. That happened because the game had the cute creature-collecting elements of Pokemon, but was also extremely violent, like most survival games. In fact, it may be a little too similar to Pokemon, as Nintendo and The Pokemon Company are suing developer Pocketpair. That’s not stopping them from bringing Palworld to more platforms, as it surprise launched on PS5 during tonight’s State of Play.

Monster Hunter Wilds is out next February

Monster Hunter Wilds - Release Date Reveal Trailer | PS5 Games

Monster Hunter Wilds got a new trailer during this State of Play. It showed us some more story cutscenes, a new jungle-like biome, and some threatening new monsters that players will have to fight in the game, like the White Wraith. We also saw Felynes in action in Monster Hunter Wilds for the first time. Most importantly, we finally got a release date for this long-awaited Capcom game. Monster Hunter Wilds will be released on February 28, 2025.

Lego Horizon Adventures is out in November

LEGO Horizon Adventures - Pre-Order Trailer | PS5 Games

Lego Horizon Adventures was revealed in June, but still had no release date. That finally changed today as a new trailer confirmed that Lego Horizon Adventures will be released for PC, PS5, and Nintendo Switch on November 14. That lines up with a previously leaked release date for the title. Its new trailer reaffirmed the core concept of the game: it is a kid-friendly, Lego-fied reimagining of the story of Horizon Zero Dawn that isn’t afraid to break canon with costumes based on other PlayStation characters like Sackboy or Ratchet & Clank.

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is launching sooner than you think

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered - Announce Trailer | PS5 & PC Games

Earlier in the month, an ESRB listing revealed the existence of Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered. Following in the footsteps of similar treatments for the two The Last of Us games, this is a refurbishment of a bestselling PS4 game for Sony’s current platform. The reveal trailer highlights the improved visuals and over 10 hours of rerecorded dialogue. Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered will be released on October 31, which is much sooner than expected. It will be available across PS5 and PC and will only cost $10 for those who own the original.

Ghost of Yōtei is Sucker Punch Productions’ next game

Ghost of Yōtei - Announce Trailer | PS5 Games

To close out the show, Sucker Punch Productions surprised us by revealing Ghost of Yōtei, a sequel to 2020’s critically acclaimed Ghost of Tsushima. It follows a new “ghost” named Atsu, and takes place around Mount Yōtei in Northern Japan. It also takes place in 1603, which is hundreds of years after Ghost of Tsushima, which is known for its gorgeous vistas and industry-leading visuals. Ghost of Yōtei is shaping up to be very much the same. It will be released exclusively for PS5 sometime in 2025.

3 new PlayStation Plus games to check out this weekend (June 21-23)
Pagan Min attacks a soldier in Far Cry 4.

It's the middle of the month, so that means Sony just dropped a batch of new titles into the game catalog for PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra. While these additions aren't as high profile as some earlier months of the year, this group of new PS Plus games still has some winners that stand out as the cream of the crop. There are three games in particular that are worth hopping into this weekend.

First is a game from Capcom that will allow you to better understand the jump from Monster Hunter: World to Monster Hunter Wilds. Then, we have a classic Ubisoft open-world game that can get you primed for the release of Star Wars Outlaws and Assassin's Creed Shadows later in 2024. Finally, there's a PlayStation VR2 game about kayaking that offers a relaxing virtual experience for those looking for an excuse to put on the VR headset.

3 outstanding PS Plus games to play this weekend (June 14-16)
Key art for Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus

The most announcement-filled week of gaming has wrapped up. From Summer Game Fest to the Xbox Games Showcase and Ubisoft Forward, there was a ton of big gaming news. Many of the games revealed are coming to PlayStation 5, too. On top of that, Sony's Days of Play initiative is still in full swing, which means some more PS2 games finally got PS4 and PS5 ports for the first time in several years. As a result, there's no shortage of relevant games in the PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra catalog to check out if you're looking for something to play this weekend.

Three titles stand out to me in particular. The first is the game that cemented the status of a pillar franchise for PlayStation and is getting reinterpreted as a Lego game for kids later this year. Next, there's a Dragon Ball game that looks even better than the manga and anime it's based on and is a nice companion piece to a Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, which launches later this year. Finally, I'm recommending the PS2 classic that put Sucker Punch Productions on the map.

Astro Bot isn’t getting PlayStation VR2 support, Team Asobi confirms
Astro Bot wears a dog backpack.

PlayStation's upcoming exclusive Astro Bot will not receive PlayStation VR2 support, Nicolas Doucet, Team Asobi studio head, confirms to Digital Trends. Doucet says that the team is "100% TV" and notes that the addition of a VR mode down the line is unlikely.

The Astro Bot series first made a name for itself thanks to PlayStation VR. Team Asobi's Astro Bot: Rescue Mission was hailed as one of the VR platform's best games when it launched in 2018, leaving fans curious to see if the studio would develop a game for Sony's newest headset, the PlayStation VR2. In an interview with Digital Trends at Summer Game Fest, Doucet confirmed that VR isn't in the cards for its new game for logistical reasons.
