The Day of the Jackal (2024)

Starring Eddie Redmayne, The Day of the Jackal has already received positive reception from its debut in the U.K., but the series has not gotten a lot of attention yet leading up to its premiere in the U.S. The central characters are a British assassin known only as the “Jackal” (Redmayne) and intelligence officer Bianca (Lashana Lynch, The Marvels) whose mission is to capture him. While the story is based on the classic 1971 novel written by Frederick Forsyth, The Day of the Jackal is a modern-day reimagining with a 21st century twist.

Redmayne captures the essence of the titular character, a mimic who takes on various personas to complete the jobs for which he’s hired. But he meets a formidable opponent in Lynch’s Bianca, a fierce MI6 firearms expert who will stop at nothing to follow the breadcrumbs in hopes of discovering his identity and taking him down herself. With a solid 90% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, Barbara Ellen from Observer (UK) describes The Day of the Jackal as being like a “Mission: Impossible film marathon” and says it’s “classily done and, like the Jackal himself, takes no prisoners.”

Landman (2024)

Landman | Official Trailer | Paramount+

Hailing from Taylor Sheridan, co-creator of Yellowstone, Landman has a similar premise of dueling factions, except this time, it’s centered around the world of oil rigs. Set in West Texas, the show stars Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris, a crisis executive at an oil company trying to navigate the complicated business of an industry that involves a diverse set of players with differing interests, from roughnecks to impulsive billionaires.

Landman has an incredible cast that also includes Ali Larter, The Substance‘s Demi Moore, Jon Hamm, Andy Garcia, and Michael Peña. It could very well be the best upcoming series this month you hadn’t even heard of yet. It’s no surprise that even ahead of its first season release, Landman has already received a second-season renewal.

Interior Chinatown (2024)

Interior Chinatown | Official Trailer | Hulu

Jimmy O. Yang (Silicon Valley) heads up this series that counts Taika Waititi among its executive producers. Interior Chinatown is based on the novel of the same name about Willis Wu (Yang), a struggling character actor. He has worked on numerous police procedurals, but he’s always a background character, never getting his moment in the spotlight. His life changes in a heartbeat, however, when one day, he is recruited to help on a real-life case.

He is now thrust into a world of excitement he has been longing for, but the underground criminal world of Chinatown is no joke, posing real threats. Still, Willis has finally gotten what he wanted: He’s officially in the spotlight. Plus, he might finally solve a years-long family mystery in the process.

With all 10 episodes streaming at once, Interior Chinatown could become your next binge obsession. Keep an eye out for more familiar faces among the cast, including Ronny Chieng (The Daily Show), Chloé Bennet (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Canadian YouTuber Lisa Gilroy, and Archie Kao (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation).

If you have to watch one Netflix show this November, stream this one
The cast of A.P. Bio.

Shows from other networks and streamers have helped Netflix make it almost all of the way through 2024 without losing too much momentum after last year's Hollywood strikes. Between comedies like Reba, Martin, and My Wife and Kids, as well as dramas including Lost, Prison Break, Fire Country, and Yellowjackets, Netflix has revitalized older and more recent series while the streamer's original programing caught up after six months in limbo. A.P. Bio is one of the series from another streamer that's coming later this month, and it's our pick for the one Netflix show that you need to watch in November.

What’s new on Apple TV+ this month (November 2024)
Saoirse Ronan walks next to a little boy with her hand on his shoulder.

Due to its unique model that includes only original content, Apple TV+ tends to have a very slim new release slate. However, just about every Apple TV+ release features A-list talent, and it has set a high bar for quality. Just look at Best Picture winner CODA and Emmy-winning drama Severance (returning in January).

This month is no exception, as there are only four new additions to the library in November. We've highlighted the two most anticipated, but don't overlook Season 2 of the critically acclaimed comedy Bad Sisters or the Malala Yousafzai and Jennifer Lawrence documentary Bread & Roses.
