The heroes and villains of Marvel are colliding in Marvel Rivals, but will you be able to clash with friends on other platforms? Being a cross-platform game is essential for a hero shooter looking to take the crown from games like Overwatch 2 or Apex Legends, but Marvel games have typically been exclusives in the past. This is a different case, though, since Marvel Rivals is shaping up to be one of the best shooters on PC and consoles. Much like the Hulk, Marvel Rivals has a bit of a split personality when it comes to cross-platform support. On one hand, the game has full crossplay support. Anyone on PC, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X/S can match up as a team or rivals in almost every game mode. By almost we mean that every group is pooled together for Quick Match, Conquest, Custom Games, and Practice, but not Competitive Mode. In this mode only, PC players are relegated to their own matchmaking pool to avoid any competitive advantages over console players using controllers.

Cross-progression is another point of disappointment. Despite being free, there’s no way to pick up your progress if you download the game on another platform after starting. However, the team at NetEase has acknowledged this deficiency and pledged to work on it should it be something the community requests. So, while it currently doesn’t have this feature, it is very likely Marvel Rivals will get cross-progression in the future.

In today's day and age, launching an upcoming video game as hotly anticipated as Sid Meier's Civilization 7 and not having it be a cross-platform game can be a death sentence. Some of the best PC games like Valorant choose to have limited cross-platform support, while others like Final Fantasy 14 break down all barriers. We already know that this will be the first time the series has launched on consoles at the same time as PC, but has Civilization 7 kept up with the times and included cross-platform support? Is Civilization 7 cross-platform?

Civilization 7 does have cross-platform support, but with a few catches. The game has fully crossplay between PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Switch with the use of a 2K account. However, the number of players you can play with in certain modes depends on your platform. On anything but the Switch, up to five players can connect in the Antiquity & Exploration Ages mode and up to eight in the Modern Age mode. Switch players, meanwhile, are limited to four players in the Antiquity & Exploration mode and only six in Modern Age. Switch players are also not expected to be able to play on map sizes of Standard or larger, meaning anyone who wants to crossplay with a Switch player will also be subject to these limitations.

In the world of MMORPGs, Final Fantasy XIV has risen to the top alongside (or perhaps even surpassing) World of Warcraft. Yes, Final Fantasy XIV was originally only cross-platform between PlayStation and PC players, but ever since the game came to Xbox, those players have also been entered into the fold. You're free to meet, team up with, and experience the entire game with players on all platforms so long as you're connected to the same server.

Execs at Marvel Rivals developer NetEase arrested on allegations of corruption

Two top executives at NetEase Games, the makers of a number of huge free-to-play and mobile titles like Marvel Rivals and the upcoming Destiny: Rising, were arrested this week in connection with allegations of bribery and corruption.

According to Bloomberg Law and Chinese outlet Leifeng (and spotted by Game Developer), two executives and seven other employees were reportedly taken into custody following an internal NetEase investigation. NetEase isn't confirming any specifics as the investigation is still ongoing, but Leifeng noted that it concerns employees purchasing traffic.
