Buena Vista Pictures Distribution

This weekend welcomes one of the year’s biggest sporting events, the Super Bowl. The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles will play in Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans, Louisiana. The game is a rematch of Super Bowl LVII, which saw the Chiefs defeat the Eagles by a score of 38-35. This time, the Eagles will try to avenge their loss and prevent the Chiefs from winning three consecutive Super Bowls.

The Super Bowl is typically the most-watched TV event of the calendar year. Even if you don’t like football, many consumers tune in for the entertaining commercials. To get ready for the game, FAST services have a wide selection of football movies to stream for free. Our recommendations include a comedy about a team of replacements, a 1990s comedy, and an underdog story.

The Replacements (2000)

Warner Bros. Pictures

Everyone likes a good redemption story. For the players in The Replacements, this is their shot at becoming football heroes. Due to a players’ strike, the Washington Sentinels are left without a team. The Sentinels must win three of their final four games to make the postseason. Sentinels owner Edward O’Neil (Jack Warden) hires former coach Jimmy McGinty (Gene Hackman) to lead a team of replacement players for the rest of the season.

McGinty accepts the deal and forms the team his way. The centerpiece of the new squad is quarterback Shane Falco (Keanu Reeves), a former All-American whose career went downhill after choking in a big game. With Falco as the leader, McGinty fills in the rest of the squad with rejects and no-names. However, the team eventually comes together and bonds over their shared disappointments. Who knows? Maybe a team of bench guys can become legends.

The Waterboy (1998)

Remember the time Bobby Boucher showed up at halftime and the Mud Dogs won the Bourbon Bowl? Well, we do! Adam Sandler created the most unorthodox linebacker in The Waterboy, one of the Sandman’s best 1990s comedies. Bobby Boucher Jr. (Sandler) has been raised to love and obey one thing: his overprotective mother, Helen (Kathy Bates).

In his free time, the 31-year-old Bobby is the water boy for the struggling South Central Louisiana State University Mud Dogs, led by the depressed Coach Klein (Henry Winkler). After being teased by the team’s quarterback, Bobby knocks him out in a fit of rage. Impressed by his aggression, Coach Klein adds Bobby to the team as a linebacker. With Bobby as the defensive anchor, South Central becomes a winning program. Yet the only thing standing in the way of a championship could be Bobby’s mama and her distaste for football.

My All American (2015)

Clarius Entertainment

Everything is bigger in Texas, including football. The Texas Longhorns rose to prominence in the 1960s behind coach Darrell Royal (Aaron Eckhart). Freddie Steinmark, a former player for Royal, serves as the inspiration for My All American. Despite his small stature, Steinmark (Finn Wittrock) gets a chance to play for Royal (Aaron Eckhart) in the late 1960s.

Freddie works his way up to the varsity and finds success on defense. Just as Freddie finds his way on the team, he begins experiencing pain in his knee. Freddie’s injury takes a tragic turn during the 1968 season and prevents him from playing. However, Freddie’s story inspires the team ahead of the 1969 Cotton Bowl Classic. My All American is a tribute to Steinmark, the ultimate teammate.

If you have to watch one Netflix show in February 2025, stream this one
The cast of A Different World.

During 2024, Netflix added many classic sitcoms from the 1990s, including Martin, The Jamie Foxx Show, and Reba. That's given those shows a chance to find a new audience in the streaming era. This month, the streamer is doing it again with A Different World, and it's our pick for the one Netflix show that you have to watch in February.

This is significant because A Different World hasn't been readily available to stream or purchase on digital outlets. It's also been unjustly dragged down by the controversy surrounding Bill Cosby and the sexual assault allegations against him that has relegated The Cosby Show to streaming purgatory. A Different World is a spinoff from The Cosby Show, and characters from the latter did show up in the former. However, A Different World also established its own identity as a comedy, especially once Lisa Bonet, the original lead of the series, left the show.

Tubi's lineup continues to improve each month. Some standout titles in February include Dune, Denis Villeneuve's first movie of a two-part adaptation of Frank Herbert's novel; Easy A, Emma Stone's hilarious teen comedy; and Licorice Pizza, Paul Thomas Anderson's sweet coming-of-age tale. This article is catered toward action fans, and our picks below are three stone-cold classics.

The Terminator (1984)

"I'll be back." 40 years later, that phrase from The Terminator still has a stranglehold on pop culture. Those three words were uttered by Arnold Schwarzenegger's titular Terminator, a cyborg assassin sent from 2029 to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), whose unborn son will one day lead the human resistance against machines.
