Motorhead singer to turn up the volume with launch of Motorheadphones

Plenty of musicians have shilled products with their name on it over the years, with artists like Kiss creating a cottage industry in the process. While we also expect this sort of behavior today from the likes of Justin Bieber or Lady Gaga, respectable and relevant contemporary artists such as Dr. Dre, 50 cent and Ludacris have also pimped out headphones bearing their famous monikers.

Perhaps not wanting to be left behind in rock and roll oblivion, Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister will introduce Motorheadphones at next month’s International CES. The aging British heavy metal rocker, who has been adding umlauts to song and album titles alike for nearly four decades, noted that these headphones are aimed at serious rock connoisseurs.

“These new headphones are not like the weak-kneed, lily-livered, tin-pot, skinny sounding little pieces of garbage out on the market today,” said Kilmister. “We designed these headphones to deliver everything louder than anything else and with the sort of range, clarity and TRUE rock reproduction you’d expect from a band of warriors like us.”

The Motorheadphones, which are being produced by Swedish-based Krusell International AB, were reportedly developed with the help of sound expert Anders Nicklasson, with additional input from Motorhead.

We’re not exactly sure how a band that is known for its excessive volume, to the point that Lemmy once proclaimed he wanted to create music that was “ loud that if we move in next door to you, your lawn will die” are the right guys to talk about sound quality. Krusell claims that the headphones offer the same quality as “professional studio” headphones, and while Motorhead might not be racing up the charts the band has spent a lot of time in the studio.

The Motorheadphones will also be about branding we suspect; something for those aging metal fans to feel a connection to the past while listening to music on an iPad or smartphone. To that end there will be multiple models of the Motorheadphones ranging in price from $50 to $130.

While already released in Europe the line will make its debut in North America at CES, but perhaps Lemmy just wanted an excuse to play his biggest hit and Motorhead anthem “Ace of Spaces” in Las Vegas!

Sony launches its smallest wireless earbuds at an equally small price
Sony WF-C510 wireless earbuds.

Sony has dipped below the $100 barrier for the first time on a set of wireless earbuds with the launch of its WF-C510. The new model comes in blue, yellow, black, and white, and costs just $60 -- 40% less than its predecessor, the $100 WF-C500. They can be preordered starting August 26.

The price is obviously a big deal. Sony has never offered wireless earbuds at less than $100 until now. However, Sony says it has also managed to make several improvements to performance and features.

TCL’s NXTFrame gallery TV launches with a little help from Bang & Olufsen
TCL NXTFrame A3000W Pro.

TCL has released its answer to Samsung's popular The Frame TV. Known as the TCL NXTFrame, it comes in 55-, 65-, 75-, and 85-inch sizes, as well as in both a regular and "pro" version, with prices starting at $1,500. The three smallest sizes are available starting August 5, with the 85-inch models showing up in stores and online in September. TCL claims the NXTFrame is the world’s thinnest “All-In-One” TV, with a 1.1-inch deep chassis on the 55- to 75-inch models.

The NXTFrame and NXTFrame Pro are identical in terms of the TV portion, with the Pro models getting the added benefit of a 3.1.2 soundbar and wireless subwoofer system that has been co-engineered by TCL and Bang & Olufsen (B&O). TCL says that the audio system uses B&O’s BeoSonic,"a proprietary digital interface, which allows customers to seamlessly customize and refine their sound experience."
