Social media and its many platforms has made it easier for anyone and everyone to have a voice – and brands are paying attention. There are a slew of contest out there that want your Tumblr, Tweets, and more, so what’s stopping you? Check out all the social media ways you could win big this week.
Win a Gibson signature guitar
Music buffs pay attention. Gibson Guitar offers giveaways of signed guitars on a regular basis. Last month, it was a Green Day autographed Les Paul, and the one before that was penned by Nickleback – yes, Nickleback but save your personal opinions about that band for Reddit.
This time around, Gibson is working with Chris Cornell, the singer-songwriter for Soundgarden and Audioslave to give away a Gibson personalized by Chris Cornell himself. Specifically, it’s a Gibson Chris Cornell ES-335 Flat Black guitar that’s been “outfitted with a Bigsby Tremolo Tailpiece, clear Top Hat Knobs, Aged Nickel Hardward and the rich, clear warmth of renown Lollartron Humbucker Pickups.” Oh, and it’s of course autographed by Chris Cornell.
Just for your information, the guitar is appraised at $4,233.
There isn’t much to do for entering this competition. You’ll need to follow both Gibson Guitar and Chris Cornell on Twitter. Then retweet this tweet to your followers:

13-20 year-olds can win a celebrity mentorMove to Trash
Acuvue is giving aspiring stars between the ages of 13 and 21 the chance to be mentored by Joe Jonas, Dwight Howard, Demi Lovato, or Shay Mitchell. As the contest states, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime mentorship who could probably hook you up with the connections to propel your dream of becoming a YouTube somebody.
You’ll need a YouTube account to enter. The gist of the contest rules is that you’re asked to submit a video of yourself to YouTube through Acuvue’s submission form about “what you dream of doing one day.” The company encourages creativity so it’s providing contestants with three default tracks. If you’re in need of some inspiration, you can check out current submissions.
You have seven chances to win and the decisions are rolling.
The Prize: Mentorship by Joe Jonas, Dwight Howard, Demi Lovato, or Shay Mitchell.
Deadline: Rolling until May 27.
CrowdTap’s Instagram contest
In case you didn’t know, CrowdTap connects brands with fans and customers and transforms them into brand ambassadors through social media.
CrowdTap isn’t offering a huge prize valued in the thousands of dollars, but we’re a fan of startup #SWAG so you can enter CrowdTap’s contest for a chance to win a CrowdTap t-shirt, notebook, stickers, and post-it-notes.
The contest is an “all-time best photo challenge” meaning that you’re eligible if you’ve entered the contest before. Although from the looks of it CrowdTap might not mind if you submit a new submission. So if you’re intrigued, upload your best photo to Instagram “that shows [them] why you enjoy Crowdtap” and add a description. The description should mention @crowdtap and the hashtag #TapperGram.
The Prize: CrowdTap Swag Bag including a CrowdTap t-shirt, notebook, stickers, and post-it-notes.
Deadline: Friday, May 3, 2013
Rihanna’s Nude City Challenge
We thought we’d throw in a cash giveaway and this week happens to be run by Macy’s and Rihanna. We suspect she’s trying to sell off her new perfume “Nude” and accepting submissions for a chance at $5,000. But cash is cash right?
If you want to enter submit a photo via Twitter or Instagram of whatever you feel like – preferably Rihanna related – and tag the submission with #NudebyRih(your_city). So if you’re from Philly you’d tag it with #NudebyRihPhilly, or #NudebyRihBrooklyn if you’re from Brooklyn.
The gimmick here though is that to be eligible for the chance at winning this cash, your city needs to make the most buzz. Then from the loudest city, Macy’s will randomly select a winner.
The Prize: $5,000
Deadline: 11:59 PM EST on Sunday, May 5, 2013
Vine Tribeca Film Festival submissions
Tribeca Film Festival’s #6SECFILMS isn’t a contest anymore, but think of this as inspiration for next year’s contest.
We think it’s worth turning your attention to the very first Tribeca Film Festival submissions to its 6-second film category.
The Film Festival submissions have been judged and the contestants have been narrowed down to the top 40 submissions from 700. The categories were #Genre, #Auteur, #Animate, and #Series.
Despite being officially in existence for just four months and brands scratching their heads and trying to figure out what to do with Vine, we’ve already seen creative ways that users are leveraging the app to tell a story, promote themselves, or make people laugh.
Vine is growing into an essential part of our social media usage, and this Tribeca Film Festival gives credence to the potential for short film on apps like Vine.
You can check out the full Shortlist of the top 40 here (click on “The Shortlists”), and then check back on April 26, 2013 to find out the finalists of each category.
