Sony teases the first very, very brief glimpses of the PS4

PS4 teaseShocking news from the world of gaming. Brace yourselves: the PlayStation 4 is rectangular in shape! That bombshell was dropped on us earlier today in the form of a brief teaser trailer from Sony. The timing of the release is likely just a completely arbitrary decision, and has nothing to do with anything else happening this week in the world of gaming.

Sony opted against revealing the physical PS4 console during the unveiling event back in February, a decision that continues to be questioned even now. The truth of it was that a final design simply hadn’t been decided on yet. The hardware inside the box is what’s most important, not the box itself. Still, if millions of people are going to stare this thing in the face every time they sit in front of the TV, they’d probably like to know that it’s not vomit-inducingly ugly.

The video below confirms that the new console will be square-ish, and continue the tradition of using a dark, probably black, finish. It also apparently has a grille and several ridges. So there’s that.

Beyond reminding people of the PS4 the day before the next Xbox is revealed, the trailer also serves as a save the date for Sony’s E3 press conference on Monday, June, 10 at 6pm PST. Sony should unload a bunch of info on us including the final design, and (hopefully) price and release date.

Bad news: Your PS5 Slim covers won’t work on the PS5 Pro
The PS5 engraving on the console is being aligned with the cutout on the new top cover.

People have a lot of questions about the PlayStation 5 Pro ahead of its launch on November 7. Is it worth $700? How much better will your games look and play? Will your PS5 Slim faceplate match? You'll have to wait for reviews to answer a lot of those questions, but we now have an answer to that last one. Digital Trends can confirm that PS5 Slim covers won't work with the PS5 Pro.

"PS5 console covers are not compatible with PS5 Pro. However, players will be able to swap out different console covers for PS5 Pro when they become available in the future," a PlayStation spokesperson told IGN Thursday.

3 new PS Plus games to check out this weekend (October 25-27)
Key art for Dino Crisis.

Halloween is next week, so you should get in the mood for it by playing some spooky games. Thankfully, several horror titles came to the PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra game catalog this month. From horror classics for the PS1 and PS2 to newer games with more modern storytelling and choose-your-own-adventure sensibilities, PS Plus subscribers will have a lot to choose from when they're looking for something to play this weekend. These are three newer highlights that fit that bill.
Dino Crisis
State of Play | September 24, 2024 [ENGLISH]

While Resident Evil is Capcom's flagship survival horror game series, it's not the only one they've ever had. There was also Dino Crisis, a horror game that swaps out the zombies for dinosaurs. While this series ended after three games and faded into obscurity, Capcom is finally acknowledging it again with a PS Plus re-release of the first game. I'm happy it did this, as the game is worth revisiting in 2024. If you can get used to its dated tank controls and menu design, you have a really solid and surprisingly cinematic retro horror game that deserves more love than it gets. If you've never tried Dino Crisis before, this Halloween gives you the perfect opportunity to do so. Dino Crisis is available on PS4 and PS5 as part of the PS Plus Premium Classics Catalog.
