We stare at smartphones for an hour every day: Is Google Glass the cure?

Did you realize that you may be staring at your phone for up to an hour a day (maybe more)? Checking our phones has become almost a nervous habit.

According to a new study conducted by Experian, which surveyed 13,000 smartphone users to determine just how active people were with their devices, and what they did. The results showed that, on average, we are engaged with our smartphones for an average of 58 minutes each day, whether we’re talking, texting, Facebooking, or any other activity. (The bulk of the usage is dedicated to talking or texting, to the tune of 46 percent.)

Still, we’re doubting that Google Glass is at the top of everybody’s “gotta have” list. In fact, it’s something that, when made available to the public, will likely be mostly adopted by avid mobile users and tech geeks.

But we’d be remiss if we didn’t point out that the mobile super-users, which account for 8.6 percent of smartphone users are actively engaged with their devices for more than 40 hours each week. So really, the people that are most likely to go out and buy Glass are already well beyond being passive users.

What do you think? Would it save time to not have to whip out your smartphone so much? Is it worth the tradeoff of having to wear strange headgear?

For the last few years, Google has released new Pixel phones every October. This tradition has been pretty consistent, but not so for 2024. This year, Pixel fans are getting new phones earlier than ever.

Google officially announced the Google Pixel 9 series on August 13, about two months earlier than we initially expected. We also have more new Pixels than ever before — including the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. I recently had a chance to spend a couple of hours with all of the non-folding new Pixels, and even after a brief hands-on session, there's already a lot that I like.
