We’ve already seen MSI unveil a powerful gaming laptop at this year’s Computex, but who knew that we’d also see the Taiwan-based company toss its own hat into the high-resolution races.

Let’s be honest; this year’s Computex has been the “Acer and Asus show” with both companies bombarding us with 4K-resolution everything. MSI is taking a more subtle approach, but its still managing to slide on scene with what might be one of the sharper pictures available on a Haswell-powered notebook this year. The MSI GT60 3K Edition features a 15.5-inch screen with a 2880 x 1620 maximum resolution at a 213-pixels-per-inch density. For reference, that is almost on par with Apple’s MacBook Pro Retina display (Apple’s 15-inch Retina Pro is 2880 x 1800).

MSIGT60LaptopThe internal specifications on this machine revolve around a Haswell Core i7-4930MX processor. The graphics are boosted by a discreet Nvidia GeForce GTX 780M card, complete with 4GB of GDDR5 video memory. This pairing should allow you to enjoy the GT60’s intense resolution, and, thanks to the internals, this is perhaps one of the sharpest displays we’ve yet to see in a Haswell-integrated laptop. If you feel like you need to upgrade to a larger screen, you can make use of the two mini DisplayPort’s and the HDMI slot integrated into this system. The casing is completely blacked out and features a few modern flairs here and there, specifically near the top of the keyboard.

No word of a price point just yet, and we probably won’t know much about cost until we get closer to a potential release date. According to CNET, we can expect to see the 3K Edition later this year.

Here’s why it is a good time to buy a monitor
Pair of monitors on a desk with a monitor arm.

Planning to get your hands on one of the best monitors for your workstation or gaming PC? There’s good news. Due to the declining demand for computer monitors, we could soon witness a welcome price reduction for consumers.

As per a report by DigiTimes, industry analysts suggest that the market for monitors -- particularly standard LCDs -- has been impacted by the rise of more affordable OLED alternatives and a slowdown in overall consumer demand. This shift in demand has left manufacturers with surplus inventory, which they are expected to discount more aggressively through the end of 2024 to drive sales. A similar pattern is being observed with laptop displays as the demand for entry-level notebook panels is also declining.
